Bless This Home
Turning Empty Apartments into Welcoming Homes — and Lives Around.
"Furnishing the Home, Filling the Heart" is the motto of Bless This Home, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged women and families transitioning from restorative programs. This faith-based organization fully furnishes apartments for women and children coming out of transitional housing in Manchester and Nashua. They partner with organizations such as Marguerite's Place to aid those who may have been facing homelessness, drug or alcohol abuse, domestic abuse, or other challenges in which they need help getting back up on their feet. Whether it's the brightly colored box truck with Ephesians 2:10 written on it, the church pew in the offices, or the smiles you are greeted with when you enter the front door, you can truly see the positive environment and love that is this organization. Their program offers support at every step, including an initial walkthrough of the apartment to understand the family's needs, moving the furniture in Bless this Home's box truck, setting up the apartment, and a reveal where the family walks through the rooms and sees their new home.
Featured in Greet Bedford in September 2022, Bless This Home has since expanded, and in June, they moved into a new, larger warehouse that consolidates their other two locations. This warehouse is complete with enough space for the furniture and other home supplies they currently have, in addition to an office space dedicated to the work the board and volunteers do each day. The organization feels incredibly blessed to have this donated space. Deeply rooted in faith, volunteers have found signs that the work they are doing is beneficial and crucial for the lives of many in everyday life.
Denise McCoy, board member, manager of one of the other warehouses, and volunteer, highlighted how much she enjoys the time she spends volunteering. McCoy says, "It's joyful to be together, and it is joyful to be doing this type of work and helping families." She loves to take older and donated furniture, as well as home supplies, and give them a new home and a new purpose. She says this, and the reveals are the most rewarding parts of her involvement in the organization.
Volunteers expressed their gratitude for the numerous furniture donations that have furnished many homes. It is crucial for them to have a variety of furniture types and colors to suit every family. The organization's most significant need is volunteers. Those of any age and with any interest are encouraged to join the cause. The current volunteer staff includes individuals who love design and home decor, as well as those who are able to lift boxes and couches. In addition, the High School Haulers is a program in which high school students help the organization by bringing a box truck to a family's apartment and then offloading the boxes, which other volunteers later set up. The program has a positive impact on the students who participate as well. Those who go off to college come home in the summer and jump right back into it because they know the importance of the work.
