Cultivating Lasting Landscapes: The Story of Stone Blossom Landscape & Design By Beth Stav
The Story of Stone Blossom Landscape & Design
I was born and raised in New England, and like many young professionals, I once imagined my career would follow a very different path. In 1995, after earning my master’s degree in sports psychology, I took what I assumed would be a brief summer job as a landscaper while I searched for what I thought of as a more traditional career. What I discovered instead was a profession that blended creativity, problem-solving, and a deep connection to the outdoors—elements that resonated with me far more than I ever expected.
The experience of shaping an outdoor space into something functional, beautiful, and personal was immediately compelling. I loved the process of listening to homeowners describe how they hoped to use their property and then translating that vision into a space that enhanced their daily lives. The satisfaction of seeing a homeowner step into their finished landscape for the first time has never faded for me, even after nearly three decades in the industry.
From those early days, Stone Blossom Landscape & Design grew organically and steadily, guided by values that continue to define our work today. Honesty is at the foundation of every client relationship, from budget conversations to realistic schedules and clear expectations. Communication is essential because no two properties—or families—are the same. Understanding how clients live, entertain, relax, and plan for the future allows us to create designs that truly support their lifestyle. And meticulous attention to detail ensures that every material, grade, transition, and focal point contributes to a cohesive and lasting result.
Our team is a blend of individuals with formal education in landscape design and horticulture, as well as those who bring years of hands-on field experience. This combination allows us to approach each project with well-rounded expertise, ensuring that the landscapes we create are both visually compelling and built to withstand time and New England’s changing seasons. Our fine gardening team plays a significant role in this long-term success, tending to the spaces we install and watching them mature beautifully over the years.
One of the greatest compliments we hear from clients is that their finished landscape surpasses what they imagined. Each project is treated as a unique endeavor shaped by the property, the architectural style of the home, the surrounding environment, and the vision of the people who will use the space. Many clients invite us back over the years for enhancements or maintenance as their needs evolve, and being part of that ongoing transformation is one of the most rewarding aspects of our work.
Last year marked an important milestone for Stone Blossom: the purchase of a new property in Bedford. Establishing a permanent home base in the community we have served for decades strengthens our connection to the area and allows us to better support our clients. We have also expanded services in response to growing needs, including deer and rabbit repellent programs and landscape lighting design and installation. These offerings complement our core design-build services and allow homeowners to protect and enjoy their outdoor spaces throughout more of the year.
If I could offer one piece of advice to Bedford-area homeowners, it would be to choose a landscape professional who takes the time to listen. A successful project should never feel rushed or predetermined. It should evolve from thoughtful conversation, collaboration, and a shared understanding of how you want to live in your outdoor space. Details such as how you entertain, how long you plan to stay in your home, or how your children or grandchildren play outside are essential in guiding design decisions that truly fit your life.
Having spent more than 30 years working in Bedford, I’ve watched the community grow and change, and I feel fortunate to have longstanding relationships with many clients. Because we are local, we are able to visit job sites frequently, identify opportunities as construction progresses, and make thoughtful adjustments that elevate the final outcome. Some of the most memorable features are those inspired by something we noticed on-site—an unexpected view, a natural grade, or an opportunity to add a unique detail.
I am proud to lead a team that values continuous learning. Whether attending workshops, exploring new materials, or refining horticultural techniques, our staff is always seeking to grow their knowledge. Each person contributes a different strength, and together that collective expertise allows us to consistently deliver exceptional results.
What began as a temporary summer job has grown into a deeply fulfilling career centered on craftsmanship, creativity, and meaningful client relationships. Stone Blossom Landscape & Design remains committed to designing and caring for outdoor spaces that bring beauty, function, and lasting value to the families who call this community home.
