Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? Tell us about your family.
I grew up in Mendon, MA, a small town with at that time a population of about 5,000 people. I relocated up to New Hampshire in 2012 to Derry and now reside in Salem. At this time, my family is spread out, mom and dad in Hilton Head Island, SC; my brother, Mike, in Dover, NH; and my younger sister, Brianna, in Boynton Beach, FL. I live in Salem with my wife, Yosmeili, and our two daughters, Mya (3) and Chloe (almost 3 months old!).
Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now.
After graduating from Nipmuc Regional High School in 2006, I studied business, but more specifically marketing, at UMass Dartmouth. As time went on, I realized I excelled the most when working in the field and office. I am a hands-on guy.
What is your business, and how/why did you start your business?
After my move up to New Hampshire, I had a full-time job in Andover, but what I really enjoyed was working for a moving company that at that time was out of North Andover, MA. I did this part-time in the evenings as well as on weekends for a few years. I really began to become interested and realized how difficult the process could be for someone who is selling/buying a house and with all the stresses that accompany it. I really began thinking of how the mover could provide such a service to the client where they are stress-free for this aspect of the process. How do I put the client at ease? What is the most important aspect of fulfilling each individual client’s requests?
After working out of North Andover for a few years, I took the leap and decided to go out on my own. I had quit my full-time job and decided this was what I wanted to do. First-Rate Moving was then formed at the end of 2015 and has been growing and becoming a force in the industry ever since.
What is unique about your business?
We can do any type of move. The diverse knowledge of our experienced movers enables them to handle all types of situations. We do local, long-distance, short-term storage, long-term storage, piano moves, spa moves, and swing set moves. We also have partners we work with in international moves and offer a full packing service, etc. Not many movers have these abilities. We are a one-stop-shop for any moving service!
Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to residents?
From working in the business for over 10 years now, there are a lot of different pieces of advice I could give from what I have seen, learned, and experienced over time. The number one piece of advice is when looking for a mover, go with your instincts on the most trustworthy professional you meet. Not the lowest cost, not the highest cost, but the company who you know will treat your belongings like their own!
What else should we know about you, your family, or your business?
Every year our business likes to help around our community, working with the Boys and Girls Club as well as Toys for Tots. We will go around to the local businesses and do the pick-ups so they can all be delivered to the pick-up location.
