Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? Tell us about your family.
I was born in Golden, CO, just outside of Denver. I spent my childhood there and in a much smaller town in Virginia. I moved to the Lakes Region in 1998 and finally relocated to Manchester about 10 years ago, where I now live with my beautiful wife, two wonderful daughters, and our amazing dog, Harley.
Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now.
After graduating two years ahead of schedule at age 16, I went to work for my grandfather, learning the ropes of the family electronics business in preparation for someday taking over. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly before I even turned 18, and I was nowhere near ready to take charge of the company. I found myself at a turning point. Not wanting to leave the area I had so quickly become so fond of, I decided to see what my options were. Fortunately, I was offered a great opportunity in the hearth and spa industry, where I remained for the next twelve years. It was there that I discovered my passion for designing and building elements of a home. It began with fireplaces and decks for hot tubs, but rapidly my desire to learn and expand grew. I went to work for a commercial design specialties firm out of Holbrook, MA, and once again was given the chance to absorb so much knowledge of the design and construction processes. On my quest for the “perfect fit,” I spent some time with a few other companies, including Exterior Designs Inc., Boston Remodeling, and Howland Home Improvement before one day deciding I had the greatest opportunity of all.
What is your business and how/why did you start your business?
In 2016 I started Building & Design Professionals Group LLC, or BDP Group, as we are known today. I realized that I had learned a great deal about construction and that I also greatly enjoyed dealing directly with clients. Why not combine the two and offer people something truly amazing? A design/build contractor who specializes in remodeling and strives every single day to give homeowners a partner they can trust and count on to provide them with beautiful craftsmanship at fair pricing throughout their projects.
What is unique about your business?
As the owner of BDP Group, I understand that hiring a contractor is more than just a business transaction, it is the start of a relationship. You will work closely with this person for extended periods of time; they will be inside your home and around your family. They should make you feel completely comfortable during what can be somewhat of an invasive time.
Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to the residents?
Do your research. Choose wisely, and not necessarily based on numbers. Too many times I have seen people frustrated with the outcome of their projects because they assumed all contractors were the same. I can promise you this… the sting of a few extra budget dollars will soon go away if the work is worth it. But sitting in your chair every single day and looking at something that disappoints you, that feeling tends to remain!
What else should we know about you, your family, or your business?
Without question, I love what I do. But I wouldn’t be here without all of the amazing homeowners here in Bedford and the surrounding areas. I have had the pleasure of meeting some truly wonderful people over the past few years, and I hope to meet a lot more of you in the times to come. And certainly, none of this would be possible without the love and undying support of my incredible wife and family. I truly want to thank you all!
