Fall in Alexandria
Events You Won’t Want to Miss
Did you survive the Back-to-School rush? I can’t believe I have a first grader and a preschooler. As the weather cools and the leaves begin to turn, I’m looking forward to fall events and family time. Fall offers plenty of ways to enjoy the city, from waterfront festivals to hands-on arts experiences.
For example, at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, the Sea Jewel Workshop with artist Alison Sigethy invites participants to create coastal-inspired glass art pieces while learning more about stained and fused glass design.
Alexandria Oktoberfest, on Sept. 19, brings live music, local vendors, and festive food to the waterfront—perfect for a fall afternoon with friends and family. Residents can also look forward to Alexandria’s vibrant fall arts season, with community events and festivals continuing throughout September and into October.
For example, art lovers can also look forward to the Alexandria Art Festival, held Sept. 20–21 at John Carlyle Square. Recognized as one of the top art festivals in the nation, the juried show features artists from across the country and showcases a diverse collection of artwork, making it a must-see event during Alexandria’s fall arts season. And then, of course, there's Del Ray's famous Art on the Avenue coming up on Oct. 3, plus the Del Ray Halloween Parade.
From local art experiences to seasonal events, fall is one of the best times to explore and enjoy everything Alexandria has to offer.
