The Saunders Family: 28 Years of Calling Fair Oaks Ranch Home

Robin and her husband David have called Fair Oaks Ranch home for 28 years. They raised their 2 boys here; Zach is now 30 and lives with his wife Sarah in Nashville. Jake is now 28 and lives in Dallas.

David grew up in Dallas and attended Texas Tech; Robin graduated from Post University in Waterbury, CT with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. She found her way to Dallas via Albuquerque in her late 20s, after accepting a job in commercial property management. David and Robin met at a party and soon after started dating. 8 months later (almost 32 years ago) they married. David was working in commercial real estate in Dallas when he was offered an opportunity to start a retail division for Transwestern Property Company in San Antonio, which led to them finding a home in Fair Oaks Ranch.

Robin continued to work part time in commercial real estate while the kids were little. While she wanted to work, her primary focus was being a mom. She recalls, “I loved being able to pick up the kids from school, help the teachers with extra projects and attend all of their sporting events”.

Then 20 years ago a friend from church asked if Robin could help her family find a home in Fair Oaks Ranch, and she fell in love with residential real estate. 5 years later Robin started the Saunders Luxury Group as part of the Portfolio Luxury Real Estate division of Keller Williams. Robin says, “I consider it a privilege to help people buy or sell a home that may be their biggest financial investment - but it's also the place where we raise our families, find peace and refuge. Home is so much more than a piece of real estate”.

Zack and Jake both graduated from Texas A&M University. Zach met Sarah at LLYC summer camp during college, then married in 2020. Zach is in sales and Sarah is a nurse at Vanderbilt hospital. They spend their time gardening, hiking and traveling as much as possible. They are so happy and love it in Nashville. After college, Jake came to work with his parents for a few years until he accepted a job with Transwestern Property Company in Dallas in commercial real estate. Jake spends as much time as possible with friends on the golf course.

Zach & Sarah adopted one of Robin’s client's dogs last year - his name is Blue, a small Australian Shepherd who they say is the best dog ever! As for David and Robin, they have a beautiful ginger colored Labrador retriever named Scout. She just turned two and they love her so much. Robin says, “You might see us walking around the neighborhood in the mornings. She is super smart and a handful!”

Robin and David both love gardening, cooking, and entertaining. “We LOVE our home and consider it such a gift to share with others. Our favorite thing is to cook for friends. David is the grill master, and I take care of the rest. It's a beautiful thing to sit around the table or our outdoor fireplace with friends,” Robin said.

She continues, “We love the holidays and often gather everyone at our home here in Fair Oaks Ranch. We have other family members here in Fair Oaks, Boerne and Dallas; over the holidays we gather as many as are able to travel here! It's been such a gift for us to be close and raise all of our kids together.”

Robin and David feel so grateful for the friends they have made over the years. David has a group of guys he meets with once a week; he also plays golf and participates in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Robin has a great group of girlfriends, “We do BSF, travel, cooking classes, play Canasta and pray and support each other through it all. I am also a member of the Boerne Garden Club and the Boerne Chamber of Commerce.’ David and Robin also belong to a small church group that meets each week.

As a member of the Boerne Garden Club, Robin helps organize the annual plant sale. The proceeds are used for beautification projects and to provide scholarships to BISD high school seniors. “David and I have always volunteered at our church, and you can find us at Currey Creek Church greeting people with a smile as they come in the doors. We were introduced to Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries 25 years ago and have volunteered regularly since. We support several other ministries in the Boerne area including Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center. God has been so good to us; we are grateful for our business successes and for the opportunities to serve others.”

Robin recalls a favorite FOR memory, “When we first moved here, with two young boys, we were always outside. One Monday when the FORCC was closed, I took the boys for a walk on the cart path. The sprinklers came on, and the boys took off to run in the water...and a sweet neighbor ran out and said "NO... that is grey water!" Needless to say, they went home for a shower. This, to me, is just one example of the kindness and generosity of our community. Another more recent example: I was brought to tears after the July floods when someone in our neighborhood posted an immediate need for flashlights, gloves, trash bags, batteries, etc. I wept as I saw the huge pile of donations left on the porch within 2 hours. So many people jumped in to help. We live in an amazing community.”
