And so it is time for the Hershey Horticulture Society to dust off the trowels, shake the dirt from its gloves and begin to plan for its 2026/2027 community gardening projects, field trips and monthly programming.
The Hershey Horticulture Society, organized in 1957 and recongized as a nonprofit entity in 1958, is one of the oldest garden clubs in the greater Harrisburg Area. Currently boasting a roster of
over a 100 like- minded members, the society is committed to promoting knowledge in gardening, flower arranging, and community beautification. A green thumb is not necessary - only an interest in flora and fauna required!
Funds raised by the organization through its biannual Spring (May) and Fall (August-September) plant sales not only support programming expenses and community projects, but also fund a biennial scholarship for a college student pursuing a degree in horticulture or environmental science.
Meetings and programs are held at the Brownstone Masonic Lodge, 215 W. Governor Road, Hershey, on the first Monday of each month beginning at11am.  Programs, free and open to the general public, feature local and not so local experts whose presentations cover topics related to horticulture, botanical art, wildlife, environmental and conservation efforts just to name a few. The Society also offers off-site experiences including tours of wildflower preserves, local private gardens, and botanical parks.
