Cocoa Packs: Love Always Wins

Fighting Childhood Hunger One Heart at a Time

In August of 2015, mother of six and outgoing PTO President, Christine Drexler, noticed the changing demographic in Derry Township and witnessed a growing number of children accessing food subsidization in schools. Accessing proper nutrition on days that children were not in school was a challenge for some families. Being a person of deep faith, Drexler was prompted to meet with the DTSD Superintendent and the Food Service Director to pitch the idea of a weekend food assistance program for students K-12 facing food insecurity. With their support, she embarked on what would be an incredible labor of love that would change her life, as well as thousands in the community, forever. She asked 10 friends to join her in fighting for the welfare of these children and between them, they provided the start up funds. The Hershey Middle School Principal offered to provide space for the project. "Love Always Wins" is more than a slogan. It's a mission. Hundreds of weekly volunteers, local businesses and groups from all over the USA volunteer within Cocoa Packs weekly. Their largest fundraiser, Heart4Hunger, is March 7th at the The Hotel Hershey. This event will support thousands of children across 6 counties enrolled in Cocoa Packs. 2025 marked their 10th anniversary and their mission is far from over. For those who question their purpose, Drexler's response is sincere: "Check your lens. A child in need bears the responsibility of many; remember how it feels to care for others."
