The Show Goes On: Hershey Theatre’s Long-Awaited Reopening

Theatre Renovation

After a 14-month renovation that began in January 2025, Hershey Theatre is preparing to raise the curtain once again in March 2026! The historic venue, which opened in 1933, has received a thoughtful refresh that includes major infrastructure upgrades while preserving Mr. Hershey’s beloved theater.
When the Theatre reopens, guests will experience a number of enhancements, including new air conditioning, improved Wi-Fi connectivity, and new seating andcarpeting—upgrades designed to elevate comfort without compromising the Theatre’s timeless elegance.
“In addition to a better experience for our guests, the many performers who come through our doors will have remodeled dressing rooms,” said Don Papson, executive director of The M.S. Hershey Foundation, adding that the building’s electrical systems and stage have also been modernized. Another major improvement is the creation of a two-story loading dock, which will greatly streamline show load-ins.
“Preservation of Mr. Hershey’s iconic theater has been of utmost importance during this renovation project,” added Papson. “With the exception of new carpeting and custom-designed seating, the Theatre’s historic interior, which was painstakingly restored in '00, remains untouched.”
Items of historical significance, such as Milton Hershey’s preferred seat, are being cared for by The Hershey Story Museum. According to local lore, seat T27 was Mr. Hershey’s favorite seat because it was located near an exit and allowed him to quietly slip away after the end of a performance.
“Since Hershey Theatre opened its doors in 1933, it has been a pillar of cultural enrichment in Hershey,” added Papson. “We are excited to reopen the doors to this magnificent theater as we continue providing the community with stellar entertainment.”
Throughout its 90-plus year history, the Theatre has hosted legendary performers such as Yule Brenner and Rosemary Clooney, as well as Motown icon Diana Ross. Upon reopening in March 2026, the Theatre will offer Broadway shows and other world-class performances. The 2026 Broadway series includes TINA – The Tina Turner Musical, & JULIET and A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical. The upcoming lineup also features appearances by comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short, singer Anne Wilson, and Emmy Award winning dancer and choreographer Derek Hough, among others.
