Officer Shearer joined Derry Township School District this summer as the new School Resource Officer (SRO), stepping into the role after Officer Kessler’s retirement. With over 24 years of dedicated service in various patrol duties with the Derry Township Police Department, Officer Shearer’s genuine love for people, community, and safety inspired him to take on this critical position.
The heart of Officer Shearer’s job is to ensure the safety and security of every staff member, student, and visitor on campus. But his mission goes beyond just protection—he’s passionate about building bridges and breaking down barriers between law enforcement and the public. Each day, you’ll find him walking through the halls, greeting students and staff, and creating an environment that feels both secure and welcoming.
Having a member of the Derry Township Police Department on campus means the schools have immediate access to emergency responders and full support from the Department whenever needed. It’s important to remember that Officer Shearer is an employee of the Derry Township PD, not the school district, which strengthens the campus's connection to the broader community.
You’ll also see Officer Shearer outside the school hallways, at district and community events like National Night Out, Friday Night Football games, the Halloween Parade, and many more. His presence at these gatherings helps everyone see him not just as an authority figure, but as a caring and approachable member of the community. He hopes students will look past the uniform and see someone they can trust and talk to.
Officer Shearer is here to support and connect with students, so they feel comfortable coming to him with any concerns or just to say hello. He’s committed to making sure every student feels safe, heard, and valued.
