On summer evenings in Hershey, the sound of baseball carries across local fields as Hershey Little League players gather to practice, compete, and grow together. From the youngest tee-ball players learning how to swing a bat to the 12U All-Stars representing their community in tournament play, the league gives children across Derry Township and nearby communities a place to build skills and friendships through America’s pastime.
Hershey Little League is a nonprofit organization chartered through Little League International, with a mission that goes beyond wins and losses. The league provides baseball instruction for recreational and competitive players while encouraging sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, respect, and positive engagement with the Derry Township community.
Players can begin as early as age 4 in tee ball and continue through the league’s upper levels, including Colts, Minors, Majors, Teeners, fall baseball, clinics, camps, and All-Star opportunities. The league also offers a Challenger Division, giving players with physical and developmental challenges the opportunity to enjoy baseball in a supportive, noncompetitive environment.
For many families, the All-Star season is a highlight of the year. Hershey’s All-Star program begins after the spring season and continues through Little League District tournaments and other local competitions. Teams at the 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, and 12U levels bring together many of the league’s top players to compete against strong teams from surrounding towns.
Behind every practice, game, and tournament are volunteers who make the program possible. Many Hershey Little League coaches return season after season, sometimes giving eight to ten years of service as players move from tee ball through Majors. Their commitment helps young athletes learn fundamentals, stay active, and experience the value of being part of a team.
Just as important, Hershey Little League helps players develop lessons that last well beyond the baseball diamond. Athletes learn how to listen to coaches, support teammates, respond to challenges, and celebrate improvement. Whether a player is stepping into the batter’s box for the first time or competing in a championship game, each season offers a chance to grow in confidence and character.
The Hershey Little League Challenger Division brings the pure joy of baseball to local children with physical and developmental challenges, proving that every child deserves a chance to step up to the plate. This inspiring, adaptive program pairs athletes ages 4 to 22 with standard-league "buddies" who assist them in batting, fielding, and running the bases. It is a non-competitive environment where scores take a backseat to smiles, high-fives, and personal milestones. Supported heavily by local families and community volunteers, the program transforms the traditional diamond into a powerful space of inclusion, building lifelong friendships and ensuring that no child is ever left on the sidelines.
Today, Hershey Little League continues to be a proud part of the local youth sports community, serving players from area schools including the Derry Township School District, St. Joan of Arc, and other local schools. With the support of families, coaches, sponsors, and volunteers, the league gives young athletes a place to play hard, have fun, and make memories that can last a lifetime.
