Hope Springs Farm: Where Purpose Takes Root

Hope Springs Farm in Hershey began in 2004 with a deeply personal dream. Founders Neil and Nina Rovner envisioned a fulfilling, meaningful place for their adult daughter—and for others like her—adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism. What started as a simple hope grew into something extraordinary: a working farm where agricultural learning meets farm‑to‑table living, and where every day is shaped by purpose and belonging. The farm’s very first residents were turkeys and chickens, quietly setting the stage for a future full of life and growth.
A decade later, in 2014, Hope Springs Farm became a licensed day program, opening the door to even greater possibilities. Since then, services have expanded and opportunities have flourished, allowing the Farm to support families and their loved ones in ways that continue to grow year after year. Joyful group activities, hands‑on learning, and self‑sustaining work experiences help participants build confidence while learning skills that carry far beyond the farm gates.
Hope Springs Farm now offers transportation services, behavioral and vocational training, volunteer opportunities, and a variety of retail products grown or created right on the Farm by program participants—fondly known as “Growers.”
The term “Growers” reflects both what participants do and who they are. Each Grower plays an important role in the daily rhythm of the Farm, taking on real responsibilities that support others—caring for farm animals, service animals-- including a therapy dog, guinea pigs and cats; tending a vibrant greenhouse filled with fresh produce, herbs, and flowers; and supporting one another as a community. Through these hands‑on roles, Growers learn the importance of sustainability, teamwork, and contribution. Every task matters, and every day brings shared purpose.
Nearly 40 animals—and counting—call Hope Springs Farm home, including alpacas, pigs, goats, turkeys sheep, and chickens. A small, dedicated team of full‑time staff, specialists, and Growers work together to ensure the animals are cared for with compassion. Through these real‑world experiences, both on and off the Farm, Growers naturally practice essential life skills such as communication, responsibility, collaboration, and problem‑solving. Just as importantly, they gain confidence—confidence that carries into their homes, relationships, and the broader community.
Products from Hope Springs Farm can be found right on the property, at community events, in local shops, and even on Etsy. From yarn made from sheared alpaca and sheep fiber to baked goods, crafts, woodworking projects, canned goods, and freshly picked produce, each item reflects the pride and effort of the Growers who made it. These offerings not only support the Farm’s mission but also celebrate the talents within it.
Spring and summer are especially magical at Hope Springs Farm. Families are welcomed to wander the grounds, meet the animals, and experience the Farm’s energy firsthand—watching Growers and their teams as they work, learn, and thrive together.
