The Powers Family

Greetings from Kristen & Patrick Powers! You'll love getting to know them a bit more, as well as their favorite things to do around town with their family - Cayden Chandler (23), Sloane Powers (6) and John Powers (5).

OUR FAVORITE THINGS:
Our Family Pet: Bulleit (doggie, age 11)
Activities/Hobbies: Travel, working out (Kristen goes to Orangetheory La Grange and Patrick is into powerlifting), going to the movies, golfing, gardening, and eating out with the family
Park/Play Area/Place to hang out: Waiola park, Elm Park, walking around downtown La Grange, and Grandma Sue and “Danpa’s” pool (Patrick’s parents)
Restaurants: GP Italiano for the best Italian food around, Santiago's for their amazing service and margaritas, Hillgrove Tap for great service, food, and a kid friendly spot to watch all our favorite sports teams, and Barrelhouse Social for great food and their Wednesday trivia nights
Vacation Destination: Mill Lake in Gobles, Michigan where Patrick's family lake house is located, Wisconsin, and anywhere in Florida.
Sports Teams: Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Tampa Bay Bucs (Kristen and Cayden lived in Tampa for ten years), Florida Gators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Marquette basketball, Northern Illinois football, & University of Louisville
TV Show/Movie: If the Chicago Cubs are playing, that’s what’s on, no question. Between them and our other teams, sports usually take over the TV. But when there’s a break, we default to movies, mostly crime thrillers and action movies.
Music: Country, Alternative Rock, EDM, classic rock
Family Dinner: We cook at home most of the week but we love to go out as a family almost every Friday to Hillgrove Tap which the littles call "The Popsicle Restaurant" because they have an ice cream chest there
Way to unwind/relax: 1:20 Friday Cubs games, happy hour on our back deck, walking around DTLG, swimming at the grandparents pool, or hanging out front with the neighbors

GETTING TO KNOW THE POWERS FAMILY FURTHER:

What college/university did you attend?
Kristen: University of Louisville (BA in Psych 2006) and University of South Florida (MSW & MPH 2009), Patrick: BA in Communication 2012 from Marquette University, Cayden: BS in Business Marketing from Miami University in 2025

How did you make your way to La Grange?
Patrick was born and raised in La Grange. Cayden and I are from Florida & Kentucky, we moved to Chicago in 2015 from Tampa and met Patrick right away. Patrick and I got married in 2018, had Sloane in January of 2020 and John in January of 2021... we outgrew our condo in Lincoln Park and Patrick was working in La Grange and his parents live here so we made the move in May of 2021 to be closer to family and to raise the little ones in such a great community.
How long have you lived in this community? What drew you to the area? In what ways are you involved in the community?
We have lived here for 5 years as a family. We came back because Patrick grew up here and always wanted to raise his family in La Grange because of the family-oriented community and to be closer to his family (his parents live in La Grange and his brother Ryan lives in Western Springs with his family). We love that we can easily visit Chicago via Metra and our downtown district is walkable and vibrant. Our kids love the parks here and being close to their grandparents. Patrick and his family owns Big Tuna's Inc. which is an investment management company that specializes in local real estate. They own, develop and manage rental properties in the La Grange and Western Springs areas. Kristen owns the Powers Mindset which is a mental health therapy practice and we currently have 2 therapists (myself and another lady).
What is your favorite part about living in La Grange?
We love the walkability, community feeling, schools, proximity to the city, and the overall charm. We live in a beautiful and safe community with so much to do where our kids can thrive. La Grange is always evolving, adding restaurants and stores, hosting events, and keeping true to its historic roots.
Do you have any unique family traditions?
We visit the lake in Michigan during the summer months. We attend the pet parade every year which is a blast. On Christmas Eve we break and share Oplatki before the meal which is a Polish tradition we have carried on through Patrick’s mom’s family. On Christmas Day we make sure we make Monkey Bread and spend the day with the families.
If you have kids, with what activities are they involved?
Cayden (23) works at Gallagher and loves to spend time with his long-term girlfriend Savanna, who he met at Miami University (Miami Mergers!) and loves to golf and watch sports. Sloane (6) and John (5) are in tee ball through La Grange little league, AYSO soccer, karate, and Sloane does ballet at the Dance Center of La Grange. They love to go to the movies in DTLG, visit the Brookfield Zoo and play at the park.
List any of your favorite family memories, funny things that have happened to your family, etc. Help your community get to know you better!
We often reminisce about our wedding in Boca Raton, Florida. That weekend with all our family and close friends is one of favorite memories. We cherish our family time and enjoy traveling to Michigan to hang out on the lake and traveling to Florida to visit the beaches. Watching the Cubs win the 2016 World Series and living in Lincoln Park at the time was an unforgettable memory. We also love our time visiting Kristen’s family in Louisville and have attended multiple Kentucky Derbys which is always a great time.
