How did you end up in La Grange?
Morgan grew up in the area and we both have a lot of family ties in the Western and South suburbs. La Grange was always a place we enjoyed visiting for all the great restaurants, beautiful houses and active community. We're happy to call it home as we start our family and grow our business.
Best place(s) to visit in town?
One of our favorite date nights is going to the Wooden Paddle for a drink and dinner before catching a $5 Tuesday at La Grange Theater.
What do you love most about La Grange?
We love how active the town is with the community. Every month there is something happening downtown and it is so easy to get out and meet people. La Grange is easily walkable whether its perusing downtown, finding hidden paths or strolling through the neighborhood, it's all so beautiful.
Activities and hobbies:
Morgan enjoys platform tennis as a great way to stay active and remain competitive year round. It was great way to meet some amazing women in the area. Jay has enjoyed playing guitar most of his life and has a new interest in Jiu JItsu. Together, we love to go for nature walks, find new restaurants, and have family game nights with Backgammon, Gin Rummy and Ticket to Ride. Morgan holds most of the wins.
Favorite vacation spot? What's on your travel bucket list?
We love making weekend trips up to Michigan whether it's along the coast or we find a way to make it to Grand Rapids to hit our favorite bakery. We've been fortunate enough to have many overseas trips and love exploring food, culture and appreciating history. One place we always mention we would like to go to is Japan. We'd spend a lot of time diving into the culinary scene, exploring temples, seeing cherry blossoms and maybe find some relaxing hot springs.
What teams do you and your family cheer for?
We love all of Chicago but the teams we watch the most are the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Blackhawks. With the World Cup being so much fun to watch we have also been wanting to find a European Soccer team to start cheering for but we're not sure where to start!
Favorite restaurants/meals?
We feel like most of our life revolves around food. Trying new food or even traveling new places just for the food. Locally, we love Kama, Petite Vie, Posto 31 sushi at Nobuki or grabbing a drink at Milk Money. Places we commonly travel to are Preservation in Geneva and Harvest Room in Palos Hills. Restaurant week is one of our favorite events every year because we get to be a little bit more adventurous. We are always looking for our next favorite spot!
Favorite movies, TV shows, and music?
Our soundtrack is a mix of classic rock, and pretty much anything from the ’90s. When it comes to movies, we’re big fans of The Princess Bride, Dazed and Confused, the entire Harry Potter series, and Undercover Blues, which, for some reason Netflix still hasn't added, and we’d really appreciate if they could get on that. For TV, some highlights are Shrinking, The Bear, The Office, Game of Thrones, or The White Lotus. We’re equal-opportunity viewers.
Any favorite family traditions?
4th of July is basically a family holiday for us. Morgan's family has been celebrating it like that her whole life. Every year we spend the weekend at Lake Geneva, dressing in Red, White and Blue, grilling out and singing God Bless America to kick off the fireworks!
Aside from necessities, what’s one thing your family could not go a day without?
The couch. We can sink into it after a long day, and now that Kennedy is here, it’s also the perfect spot for practicing her rolling over.
If your family were a super-heroes, what powers would they have?
Morgan would pick Time Travel because she loves history and wandering into the unknown. Jay's power would be to steal someone else’s muscle memory and instantly inherit their coordination. Basically, if you can do it, so can he. We think Kennedy should have the ability to fly even though she can't walk or crawl yet. We'd love to see where she goes.
What three items would your family take with on a deserted island?
We’d want to be comfortable, so naturally we’d bring our couch, a nice bottle of wine, and a deck of cards to keep our Gin Rummy rivalry going. And as a bonus, Kennedy can use them to learn how to count.
A genie gives your family 3 wishes. What are they?
Enough time together to truly enjoy all the things we're working so hard for. A house that cleans itself. The ability to recharge instantly
If your family had a warning label, what would it say?
Warning: We make plans. Our baby makes different plans.
