How did Chowder come to be a part of your family? Chowder is a rescue from Houston Chow Chow Connection. We lost our beloved Piper, a chow chow shepherd mix, almost two years ago in August, and we just couldn’t stand how quiet the house was without her. We welcomed Chowder into our family in October 2024, and he’s been a great addition.

While we don’t know all the details about his past, we have it on good authority that he was heavily abused and neglected prior to being rescued. To endure something so awful and still be as playful and loving and affectionate as he is is really remarkable. He has so much love to give and he’s a great brother to his two (human!) boys.

Chowder loves to chew soft toys which we lovingly refer to as his “stuffies.” He mostly just likes to hang out with his family—he moves around the house to follow us wherever we go! He also tried his first pup cup recently and he was a big fan! 

The idea of personal space is completely foreign to chowder. The minute he hears me turn off the house alarm on my phone in the morning, he comes jump in our bed and will get right up on top of me. He’s a big cuddle bug!
