Fred, Tig & Desi

Fred, Tig & Desi are three male guinea pigs we have the pleasure of meeting this spring!
Here's what their mom had to share.

Tell us how these three furry amigos came to be apart of your family.

We adopted them from the Texas Guinea Pig Rescue because we started working from home and wanted some co-workers!

Is there a story behind Fred, Tig & Desi's names?
Just Desi. He’s named after Desi Arnaz from “I love Lucy.” Desi is our long-haired black pig. Tig is our white pig and Fred is the orange and black pig. Fred and Tig just looked like a Fred and Tig.

Is anything special or unusual about them?
Opening the fridge or the sound of a knife against a cutting board will cause the boys to squeak until they get their veggies. They also love hay and will even stand on two feet for a piece of it. We also sometimes put a bell in their cage that they will ring when they’re hungry for food!

What do you like best about this trio?
Their little squeaks and piggy squeals and this thing they do called “popcorning” which is when they explode into the air with a high jump when they’re happy about something, eg. a new toy, clean cage or food.

What is their favorite toy & favorite thing to do?
Cardboard! we put amazon boxes in their room and they love going under them and chewing on them. Anytime we put a new tunnel or re-arrange anything, all three of them just HAVE to walk through the new thing immediately.

Any funny stories to share?
They’re escape artists! They know they’re supposed to stay in their room so, sometimes they sneak out and back in before we see them. I only caught them because they didn’t know I was in the room and they snuck out and back in again. Shortly thereafter I found little poops evidencing their prior escapes. Also, Fred is a food thief and knows he’s not supposed to take the other pigs' food so when he does Tig cries out and when Fred hears my footsteps he runs to his house and tries to pretend he wasn’t stealing food.

How spoiled are these three?
Very! They have their very own room in our house with the entire room being the “cage.” They have a second story, several hammocks and an unlimited supply of hay and different fruits and veggies daily. They eat better than us!

What else should we know about Fred, Tig and Desi?
They’re complete scaredy cats being that they are prey but all that goes out the window when you’ve got a yellow bell pepper in hand!
