It’s Spring. Let’s Go!

The weather is gorgeous, and it’s the perfect time to get your landscape ready for summer enjoyment.

If you’re wondering whether a plant made it through the winter, it may take several weeks to know for sure. If you’re patient, wait and watch for new growth. If patience isn’t your thing, it’s okay to replace it.

If you plan to outsource your landscape refresh, get on a schedule now. Spring installs fill quickly, and waiting could mean a 4–6 week delay.

For the DIYers — let’s go. Here’s how we approach spring prep.

Assess Your Landscape
Take a walk through your yard and determine what needs attention. This is a great time to refresh, replace, and plant.

Choosing Plants — A Few Favorites
Evergreen + Simple. Pringles Dwarf Podocarpus, Kaleidoscope Abelia, Dwarf Yaupon Holly, Color Guard Yucca, Gloriosa Yucca.
On the Softer Side. Japanese Aralia, Giant Leopard Plant, Butterfly Iris, Lenten Rose.
All the Flowers. Frost Proof Gardenia, Azalea, Camellia, Oak Leaf Hydrangea (use acidic fertilizer for best results).

Annuals & Perennials
When planning seasonal color, mix annuals and perennials for a balance of beauty and long-term value.
Annual Favorites. Pentas, Dusty Miller, Vinca.
Perennial Favorites. Scabiosa Columbaria, Purple Balloon Flowers, Brazos Penstemon, Lamb’s Ear.

Turf & Beds
Turf – Fertilize with Texas Tee, add compost, and aerate.
Beds – Fertilize (we love Texas Tee) and add at least a 1” layer of hardwood mulch. Skip dyed mulches—they fade quickly and can introduce unnecessary chemicals.

Irrigation Check
Inspect your irrigation system now. Texas summers are unforgiving—you don’t want to discover a problem after plants begin to decline.
