Meet the Fishers: Living Loud, Loving Big on Velasco
Cecilia Fisher and her two sons, Christian (12) and Charlie (11), bring a lot of energy—and a whole lot of heart—to their block on Velasco. Whether it’s front-yard football, family game night, or their famously spooky Halloween display, life in the Fisher house is full of action and laughter.
Originally from Fort Worth, Cecilia moved to Dallas in 2004 and settled in Lakewood in 2011. She’s lived on Morningside and Sperry, but made Velasco her long-term home in 2017 when she purchased her house as a newly single mom. “It was scary and empowering at the same time,” she says. “But Lakewood wrapped its arms around us. This community feels like family.”
Christian and Charlie attend St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School and are only 13 months apart—“Irish twins,” Cecilia jokes. Christian is the quarterback of the school football team and recently starred in the STA musical Camp Rock. He also plays basketball, runs track, hits the golf course when he can, and keeps straight As, with math as his favorite subject. Charlie, just one grade behind, is the receiver on his team and equally sports-obsessed. He also runs track, plays a bit of golf and basketball, and is known for his contagious laugh and competitive spirit. Like his older brother, Charlie’s a top student who’s happiest outdoors or on the court.
Their mom, Cecilia—also known to her kids as “Mommy Momsters”—has built a thriving career in CyberSecurity software sales. In April of 2025, she published her first book, How to Lose a Buy in 10 Ways: Savvy Advice on Becoming a Sales Unicorn, now available on Amazon and Kindle. A portion of all book sales goes to Water for South Sudan, a nonprofit she learned about through Christian’s summer reading list. “The book A Long Walk to Water hit me hard. I knew I wanted to do more, and donating 10% of the book's proceeds felt like a good place to start.”
Cecilia’s a proud dual citizen of the U.S. and Argentina, thanks to her father’s heritage. “It’s a fun fact that surprises people,” she says. “We bring a little extra flavor to the holidays.” In the Fall of 2024, she was also selected to be a part of a 40 Women Over 40 photoshoot and celebration gala put on by Fort Worth photographer Carmen Rose.
Family traditions are a big part of Fisher life—from Sunday chili nights to over-the-top Halloween displays, themed costumes, and regular movie nights or three-color art challenges. They’re regulars at the Arboretum during the holidays and love spending afternoons at Tietze Park. “We try to balance the business with together time,” Cecilia says.
Outside of work and parenting, she stays active with yoga, biking, and pickleball—and is always on the hunt for the best new local restaurants. “Dallas is full of great food and, hopefully, a few eligible bachelors,” she laughs. “Dating in your 40s is not for the faint of heart!”
Her advice for new neighbors? “Get outside, introduce yourself, and show up to the neighborhood events. Lakewood is the kind of place where you actually get to know your neighbors—and that’s pretty special.”
And if you hear a basketball bouncing in the driveway? That’s your cue. The Fishers are probably already out there.
