Golden Years with Hux: Lakewood’s Lifetime Dog

Meet Hux, the 13-year-old golden retriever who’s charmed his way into family road trips, Halloween costumes, and the hearts of everyone he meets.

Hi guys! My name is Hux, and I am a 13-year-old golden retriever. My full name is Aldous Huxley, but I go by “Hux.” My owners both read the book A Brave New World, written by Aldous Huxley, in high school. They loved the book and so they used their love of it as the inspiration for my name. My owner, Marion Donat, grew up with golden retrievers and knows how amazing our breed is. My dad, Clark Donat, had never had a dog before me, so they both decided to start by getting me when I was a puppy. They found my breeder in the classified section of an Arkansas newspaper.

My mom and dad both say I am the easiest pet alive, despite my crazy years as a puppy. I am a very loving and docile dog, and I am great with kids of all ages. I was even a good boy when Clark and Marion brought a kitten one day. I quickly learned how to put up with, and even snuggle, cats. Also, I am a very loyal dog, and I try my hardest to please my mom and dad. I am very easy both in and outside the house, and I can walk off the leash on walks sometimes. I always obey my mom’s commands, and I love meeting new people and behave well in every environment.

One of my mom’s favorite things about me is that I always, willingly, participate in our family Halloween costume. I love doing it! I also love finding sticks and traveling. My family always takes me on every road trip where dogs are allowed at the destination. I have been to multiple states, and I loved exploring them. My family never has to crate or leash me because I always stay right by their side. I am a very easy travel buddy!

This past September, my family threw me a thirteenth birthday party, and some of my other dog friends came. There were decorations, balloons, and pup cakes. If this does not give you an indication of how spoiled I am, let me tell you. My family calls me their “lifetime dog,” meaning that I am likely the best dog they will have in their lifetime, so I am very spoiled. I get multiple walks a day, and I love it. Thank you for reading about and getting to know me!
