Honoring Lakewood’s New Master Teacher, Molly Grant
A celebrated DISD educator inspiring readers, thinkers, and young historians in 4th grade
Lakewood Elementary has big news to celebrate. This month, we’re proud to feature Molly Grant, 4th grade Reading and Social Studies teacher — and one of Dallas ISD’s newest Master Teachers, the highest distinction an educator can earn through the district’s Teacher Excellence Initiative (TEI).
The Master Teacher designation recognizes exceptional performance, strong student achievement, and outstanding student experience. Through the Distinguished Teacher Review (DTR), DISD also honors educators who lead, mentor, pursue continuous growth, and promote academic excellence. Earning Master Teacher requires years of consistent excellence, and Lakewood couldn’t be prouder. As the school shared, “We are so thankful she joined LWE this year!”
Below, get to know Molly — the award-winning educator shaping young learners right here in our community.
How long have you been in education? This is my 16th year in education. Before moving to Dallas, I taught 4th–7th grade in Baltimore City Public Schools for 10 years. Most recently, I served as a literacy instructional coach for grades 2–5 on another DISD campus.
What is your teaching style? I strive to create a classroom where students feel inspired to read, write, and express their ideas. I emphasize a growth mindset and help each child build confidence as a reader and writer.
What’s your favorite part of teaching? Sharing books I loved growing up — like Number the Stars — and seeing students become fully engaged in a story is incredibly rewarding.
Do you have a teaching mantra or role model? I want students to love coming to school every day. That mantra guides the way I teach and the environment I create.
What do you enjoy outside the classroom? You’ll find me reading, walking the Santa Fe Trail with my sister, or trying new baking recipes. I also have a big sweet tooth — especially for Jeni’s Ice Cream!
Favorite local spots? Mi Cocina, Hudson House, and The T Shop for gifts.
