A Lightbulb Moment Maker: Meet Lakewood's Meredith Keegan

Known for creating a classroom where kids take the lead, Meredith has spent more than a decade helping Lakewood students discover their potential.

Lakewood Elementary is home to so many inspiring educators, and this month we’re proud to highlight Meredith Keegan, a dedicated teacher who has spent the last eleven years shaping young learners right here in our community. Known for her energy, heart, and student-led approach, Meredith continues to make a meaningful impact on Lakewood families year after year.

How long have you been in education? I’ve been in education for eleven years at Lakewood Elementary. I’ve taught both fourth and fifth grade throughout my time here and love both grade levels!

What is your teaching style? I love teaching by letting the kids lead the way. Giving them ownership of their learning helps them take pride in their progress. I enjoy using center rotations where students run stations independently while I pull small groups and meet with students one-on-one to meet their individual needs.

What’s your favorite part about teaching? My favorite part is watching the lightbulb go off when something finally clicks! Seeing that spark in a child’s eyes is unlike anything else. Kids are such treasures, and getting to witness learning through their eyes is truly special.

Do you have a role model in education? My inspiration is my fourth grade teacher from New Canaan, Connecticut—Ms. Reddington. She was the BEST and made learning so much fun. She’s the reason I wanted to become a teacher.

Tell us a little about life outside of school. Outside of school, I love spending time with my husband, Cameron, our daughters Mallory (3) and Charlotte (6), and our dog Millie. I love reading, Peloton classes, running, hot sculpt, and cooking—especially when we can all be in the kitchen together.

Where might we see you around Lakewood? You can find me grabbing coffee at JuJu or Leila’s, shopping at Central Market with my kids, or enjoying dinner at Hudson House or Oishii. For clothes, I love Roam Fine Goods!
