Madeleine "Maddie" Bankler, a 9-year-old fourth-grader at William B. Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted, is making waves with her dynamic personality and a wide range of interests. From sports to travel and creative pursuits, Maddie is an energetic and curious learner who embraces every opportunity with enthusiasm.

What sports or extracurricular activities do you participate in? I’m involved in volleyball, cheer, and gymnastics, as well as horseback riding, tennis, snow skiing, and waterskiing. Each activity keeps me active and helps me learn new skills.

Name someone you admire. What makes them special and how have they motivated you? I really admire Taylor Swift because she’s an amazing singer and songwriter who’s overcome a lot of challenges. When someone purchased her original masters, she didn’t give up. Instead, she decided to re-record all her songs to get back the rights to her own music. I think that’s so cool because it shows she’s strong and determined to stand up for herself. She also uses her success to help others and make the world a better place. I also love her lyrics because they tell really relatable and heartfelt stories.

Something Unique About Me: I have traveled to four different countries—France, Italy, Canada, and Mexico—and 10 different states.

When I grow up, I want to be... a pastry chef.
