Sunsets, Sports, and Style: Meet the Jesbergs

For Randy and Ellie, life in Lakewood means balancing family traditions, love for travel, courtside camaraderie, and Ellie’s passion for bringing custom menswear to the community through her J.Hilburn studio.

This October marks a special milestone for the Jesbergs - it’s their 29th year calling Lakewood home. Randy and Ellie settled into the neighborhood nearly three decades ago, raising their family here and creating countless memories along the way. “We simply love the laid-back neighborhood feeling of this area,” they share. “It reminds me of my upbringing in Longview… a sweet, very casual place.”

Randy, originally from Virginia Beach, is a PE-backed CEO and Operating Partner for tech services and companies. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering, while Ellie, a Longview native, graduated from Texas Tech with a BBA in Marketing. Together, they’ve built a busy, fun-loving family that embraces both work and play.

Their two sons grew up in Lakewood, attending St. John’s and Bishop Lynch, and continue to make their parents proud. Cole, will finish up at UTD in December and is already considering pursuing his master’s degree. He currently enjoys playing in a men’s adult soccer league and working out daily. He has just taken up running and will try his hand in the White Rock marathon this year.

Parker, 26, is working on his PhD in Bioengineering in Denver.  A true outdoorsman, he fills his free time kayaking, fly fishing, snowboarding, and skiing in the Colorado mountains. Parker’s research focuses on Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome,  a rare connective tissue disease, and his work has already led him to speaking opportunities across the globe.

Of course, no introduction to the Jesbergs would be complete without mentioning their beloved pets: Layla, their energetic 4 year-old blonde lab; Cece, their “lake cat” who has happily settled into domestic life at 7 years old; and Ruby Red, the outdoor cat who “came with the house” when they purchased it three years ago.

When it comes to fun, the Jesbergs know how to keep things lively. They’re seasoned travelers, with a love for both beaches and mountains. Mexico has been a frequent getaway over the years, and the family unanimously agrees Turks and Caicos is one of their top destinations. Telluride tops the list for mountain escapes, with Breckenridge a close second.

Closer to home, Randy and Ellie stay active on and off the court. They play tennis at the club, competing on a mixed doubles team, and recently began dabbling in pickleball. They’re also avid Mavericks fans, holding season tickets for a third of the season with friends. For a dash of excitement, the family enjoys heading to Choctaw or Winstar for a little blackjack and slots - sometimes walking away lucky, sometimes not, but always enjoying the thrill.

Ellie also brings her entrepreneurial spirit to the neighborhood. She has been with J.Hilburn for many years, helping men elevate their wardrobes with custom luxury clothing at accessible pricing. Earlier this year, she expanded her reach by opening a brick-and-mortar studio at Hillside Village, offering a welcoming space where clients can experience her expertise firsthand. “It’s been such a rewarding way to better serve my customers,” she says. “The Lakewood community and beyond have been so supportive of my new J.Hilburn venture.”

Community involvement is important, too. Between managing the studio, playing on multiple tennis teams, and participating in professional and social networks like the Greater East Dallas Chamber and Lakewood Women in Business, life stays busy. Hosting groups in her home or studio, supporting local alumni organizations, and staying connected to Chi Omega keeps Ellie grounded and connected.

At the end of the day, though, some of the family’s favorite moments are spent close to home - walking around White Rock Lake, cheering on the Mavs and Cowboys, grilling Randy’s famous steaks or fajitas with grilled veggies, or catching an episode of Shark Tank or America’s Got Talent.

Their advice to new Lakewood families is simple: “There’s so much opportunity to get involved here and enjoy what this wonderful neighborhood has to offer. We are so fortunate to have the lake and all that goes with it - sailing, biking, running, paddle boarding, or just watching the beautiful sunsets. It’s truly an amazing place to live and raise a family."
