School starting is just around the corner, and kids are excited for a lot. From graduating to growing friendships, kids are looking forward to the new year. 

    A rising Senior at Booker T. Washington Highschool, Hope is excited about all the traditional senior activities, such as senior sunrise and the surprises they get at school. Hope’s favorite subject in school is biology (or anything science related) because that is what she wants to major in during college. Hope is involved in lots of activities, but her favorite is her non-profit organization called Project Blush, which makes hygiene more accessible to the less fortunate around Dallas. One goal she has for herself is to work on getting her advanced scuba certification. Her favorite part of her summer was going to camp at Catalina Island Marine Institution and being able to get her scuba photography license. Her one word to describe this upcoming school year is bittersweet.

    Sinclair, who will be a Sophomore at Ursuline Academy of Dallas, is excited to grow her relationships with her friends. Her favorite subject is math, and she is involved in the Bear Helpers club, dance, and National Charity League. This year, Sinclair wants to push herself to achieve her many goals. Her favorite part of the summer was getting downtime with friends and family. 

    Brooks, who will be transitioning from eighth grade to high school at Cistercian Preperatory school, is looking forward to learning new material this upcoming school year. His favorite subject is theology, and he is involved in lots of activities at school. Brooks is planning on participating in soccer, golf, tennis, and Quiz Bowl. Quiz Bowl is an academic competition team that participates in tournaments. Brooks’s goal for this upcoming school year is to get a 4.0 GPA, and he has enjoyed growing closer to family this summer. His one word to describe the upcoming school year is possibilities.

    Erik, a rising senior at Jesuit Dallas, is looking forward to graduating this year. His favorite subject is history, and he is heavily involved with football at Jesuit. One goal Erik has for this year is to graduate, and the best part of his summer was going fishing with his dad.

    Georgie will be a senior at Ursuline Academy of Dallas this year, and she is excited about her younger sister attending the same school as her. Her favorite subject is history, and she is involved in a lot of activities. She is an Ursuline ambassador and is involved with theater, National Honor Society, and a Latina outreach community club called Latinas Unidas. One goal she has for the upcoming school year is to say “yes” to more opportunities. Georgie thinks that this school year will be magical.

    Anna, who will be in fourth grade at Mary Immaculate School, is excited about getting to be upstairs in the school and is looking forward to the work being more challenging. She is also excited that she gets to wear skirts instead of jumpers. Her favorite subject is math, and she wants to participate in sports this upcoming year if possible. One goal she has for herself is to try to get an A-plus on her English papers because they will be more challenging this year. She also wants to make the honor roll, and the best part of her summer was cooking class because it was fun, and she learned a lot of different techniques. 

    Catherine, who will be in fifth grade at Mary Immaculate School, is excited about getting the preschool kids as buddies this upcoming year. Her favorite subject is math, and she wants to do basketball and tennis. A goal she has for herself is to get a better grade in English class, and the best part of her summer was getting to relax and chill. Her one word to describe the upcoming school year is joyful.

    Kids at different schools all around Dallas are excited about various things this upcoming year! The best of luck to all Lakewood students, teachers, and families for this school year. I hope this year is magical and joyful for you all!
