Dear Divorce Coach
Helping you navigate the challenges of divorce and separation
Cherie Morris is a mother, trained lawyer, and full-time relationship and divorce coach. She is the parent of four children, a stepchild, and a proud grandparent. Having experienced divorce and the loss of her own parents, Cherie brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. Originally from Washington, D.C., she now lives on Mercer Island with her husband, in IP licensing.. Her children live in Boston, Chicago, and Denver.
What inspired you to start your business?
My own difficult life transitions inspired me to help others find a path to contentment, even in challenging circumstances. When I practiced law, I saw that people could “win” and still be deeply unhappy. Through coaching, I help clients build more peaceful, fulfilling lives—whether they’re navigating relationship struggles, divorce, or grief.

What services do you offer?
I provide divorce and relationship coaching for individuals and couples, including those preparing to co-parent. I also work with blended families to help them navigate new and often complex family dynamics.

How are you involved in the local community?
I’m a member of the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce and actively support the collaborative law community. I also work with low-fee and pro bono clients to make services more accessible. Beyond my practice, I support dog rescue organizations and children’s charities.

What challenges have you faced as a business owner?
My work depends on sound judgment and expertise. One of my biggest lessons has been learning to let go of areas outside my strengths—like marketing—and trust a talented team so I can focus on coaching, teaching, and leading a professional support group in this field.

What’s next for your business?
I recently launched Between Sessions, a professional group supporting those who work with divorce and blended families. I also teach coaching skills through CLE programs, credentialing programs, and continuing education courses, which I find incredibly rewarding.

What advice would you offer residents?
Conflict isn’t the end of the story—it’s often an opportunity for deeper understanding. Divorce is not inevitable. Curiosity, accountability, and openness can transform relationship dynamics. And if divorce does become necessary, choosing a thoughtful path forward is essential—your happiness, and often your children’s, depends on it.

Client testimonial:
Jeff P.
“My ex and I hired Cherie during the final year of a long divorce and have continued quarterly meetings since. She has been invaluable in cooling down conversations about finances, parenting, and other tough topics. Her experience brings a calm, reasoned perspective when discussions feel stuck. After four years of working with coaches, mediators, and lawyers, Cherie was the first person who made me feel truly heard, which allowed me to move beyond conflict.”
