Mill Creek Chorale Hits All the Right Notes

In 2014, an ad popped up in the local paper looking for singers to audition for a brand-new choir. Fast forward a few years, and that humble group of 36 original singers has exploded into the mighty 98 member Mill Creek Chorale. From their first holiday concert to now, they've performed two local concerts every year, while also hitting the road (or, more accurately, the skies) to Europe and the US. They've rocked stages at Notre Dame, Carnegie Hall, and Benaroya Hall. Who knows where they’ll end up next?

Raised in Iowa, Sean Berg, the Artistic Director, somehow ended up in Mill Creek after a detour through New York. His rehearsals are a delightful mix of music, chaos, and belly laughs, all while somehow managing to keep everyone on key. Picture this: singers standing in two concentric circles, eyeing each other like they’re about to step into a musical version of "The Hunger Games." At other times, sections are swapped around—altos with tenors, basses with sopranos, just to see if the musical world will implode. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. And, of course, Sean’s guidance is always spot on. “Tenors, you’re killing me!” he’ll call out, with a grin. “Raise your cheeks! Both sets!” And let’s not forget his recurring reminder that, whatever his college degree actually cost, they’re getting the bargain deal of a lifetime with his “$65,000 education.”

But wait—there’s more! Enter Jeremy Young, the Chorale’s pianist extraordinaire, who joined the team in 2016. Jeremy's the one keeping everything moving, both on the keys and in the rhythm of life, alongside Sean. Together, they're the dynamic duo who make sure the singers are on track. It’s like having a GPS for your vocal cords—one that also happens to play a mean piano.

In 2016, the Mill Creek Chorale ticked off a major bucket-list moment by performing at Carnegie Hall. In 2018, they went global, touring Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, and France. By 2022 they were off to Ireland and Scotland, and just last year they wowed audiences in Spain.
Back home, they’ve performed the National Anthem for the Mariners, the Storm, the AquaSox, and—you guessed it—the Harlem Globetrotters. They’ve also sung for Mill Creek’s Memorial Day and Veterans Day events, paying tribute to local heroes. What’s next? We can’t wait to find out.

Of the original 36 members, around 20 are still part of the choir, still singing, still harmonizing, and still feeling like family. Because, at the end of the day, the Mill Creek Chorale isn’t just about music—it’s about friendship, support, and shared experiences that last a lifetime. And now, it’s your turn to be part of this magical musical family!

Their next concerts are on May 10th at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Bothell United Methodist Church, 18515 92nd Ave NE, Bothell, WA 98011. Tickets are available by scanning the QR code, or using this link: tickets.chorusconnection.com/mcc14/events/1398
