Edith the Golden Girl of Mill Creek

Greet Mill Creek’s Precious Pet for August is Edith, the 2-year-old golden retriever belonging to Mill Creek resident and Kirkland Associate Principal, Katie Massart. Edith has lived with Katie for almost her whole life, so their bond is very strong. Katie first brought a furry friend home when she and her husband moved to Mill Creek. They felt they had the perfect house and environment for a dog. “It was time to enjoy this beautiful community,” Katie remarked. So, they found a local golden retriever breeder and brought Edith home.
Edith is a very energetic dog, constantly looking for someone to play with. She loves attention and people, greeting everyone she meets with vigorous enthusiasm. Edith also mixes well with other animals, making her one of the most extroverted dogs in Mill Creek. However, under this energy hides a gentle animal. Kate recently had her first kid, and Edith has been great.
Edith is calm and well-behaved, making her the perfect family dog, especially with a baby. Their first meeting is Katie’s favorite memory with Edith. When Edith first saw the baby, she was awestruck. Katie described the moment, saying, “She just laid down and looked at her.” And Edith’s love for the baby has continued to grow, playing and entertaining the new addition to her family.
Edith also loves to have a spa day, receiving “puppy massages,” a term coined by Katie’s mother who gave Edith her first. Edith has developed a method for requesting these massages. When she wants one, she will paw at someone until they do it, utilizing her incredible persuasion skills.
Playing is an instrumental part of Edith’s life. However, she does so in a rather unorthodox way. Edith has many toys, each of which is loved equally, so much so that Edith will make sure to use all of them equally throughout the day, scattering them around the Massart home in the process. But none of these can compare to the best toy of all, the hose. Edith has always been fascinated by water, and the hose is the perfect way to gain access to it. And if Edith’s family does not get the hint, she will lay on top of it until they turn it on for her.
But however playful Edith may be, she is very serious about her walks. When the Massarts take her out, Edith may be the one on the leash. However, she takes command, leading the charge on the same route every day, with much excitement every time. She demonstrates a very strong memory in other tasks as well, a characteristic that she, along with other golden retrievers, has developed a name for. Edith is an important part of the Massart family, being their catalyst for cuddles. Through her actions she shows that she cares for them, entertaining their baby and constantly trying to spend time with everyone else. Edith is perfect for all of these things, but as always, she is above all the best girl.
