Mill Creek’s Gentle Goldendoodle with a Heart of Gold
Greet Mill Creek’s Precious Pet for December is Myka, the 4-year-old miniature Goldendoodle belonging to Marin and Zack Cole.
Myka has lived with the Cole family her whole life. The decision to bring her home was easy for the couple, as Marin had grown up with a dog and they already had cats. So when people around them ranging from close family to a boss got dogs, they felt it was time to find another furry friend.
First, they found a breeder. Initially, Marin and Zack did not intend to bring home a dog just yet. However, upon meeting Myka, they knew she was the one. And at 10 weeks old, Myka moved to the Cole house. Myka got her unique name from Mykonos, which is a stunning island in Greece. Marin and Zack had visited it while on their honeymoon and loved it so much they chose to name their dog after the island.
Myka has witnessed many milestones in the Cole family. She moved cross-country with them in 2024. She also saw the birth of the Cole family's two children, who are 3 and 1. Myka is touted for her outstanding obedience. She is a fast learner, a trait which Goldendoodles are famous for. Myka has even figured out that there are many treats under Marin and Zack’s 1-year-old son’s chair during mealtimes. However, Myka is defined by her gentleness. Whether it is with a human or a dog, she acts with love and care.
She loves to be affectionate, but is never aggressive. People love to dogsit for the Cole’s, as Myka is a very easy dog to care for. “She’s okay just laying down all day,” remarked Marin. Only Marin and Zack’s cats did not like Myka at first sight, but they too warmed up to her. Outside of lazing around on various pieces of furniture, Myka loves to play. Her favorite game is fetch, although she is not very good. Marin observed that “Myka likes to run, but not fetch.” But the game has still provided many great memories, such as Myka’s first time playing fetch with Marin and Zack’s 3-year-old daughter. Prior to that, most of their interactions had involved the toddler being a little too rough with Myka, so fetch was a welcome change for the Cole family.
Myka is very social and loves to play with other dogs as well. But her favorite thing to do is be around her family. She follows everyone in the house and loves to participate in family adventures. Sometimes, this can get difficult for Myka, as she is very timid when it comes to new experiences. It took her 4 visits to a nearby lake to finally go into the water. However, once she got over her fears, she was back to her joyous self, freely playing in the water. Myka is an extremely curious and loving dog who clearly cares deeply about her family.
