Archie’s Got This Family Thing Down!

Greet Mill Creek’s pet of the month for July is Archie the Cavapoo, a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a poodle.

Archie’s current owner, Ming Zhou, had grown up with dogs, so adding a pet to the family was a no-brainer. She joined a Cavapoo social group, and in it, she found a post from a woman in Oregon advertising Archie, only a few weeks old at the time. Unfortunately, Archie’s first family was unable to keep him so they were looking for a loving family that would treat him with the same love they had. Ming reached out to them, boasting about the incredible living conditions and facilities available to Archie if he lived with her. The woman agreed, and Ming made the long drive south to pick up her “first child”, as she described it. Archie came with bags of food, toys, and other essentials.
Archie also came with his name, which was derive from the son of Prince Harry and Megan Markle, Prince Archie. Ming’s only regret was being unable to take home the custom wooden dog bed Archie’s first family had built for him. Finally, Archie arrived, and he has stayed with Ming for the last 6 years. When Ming promised Archie a place in the family, she was not joking. Archie was present at Ming’s wedding, when she and her husband bought their first house, and when they had their human son, Max, who is three.
Nowadays Archie is an old soul, spending his days lounging on the couch. However, he makes time to play. Archie has a passion for squirrels, so squirrels and their toy counterparts bring him much joy. As a family dog, he also dedicates time to playing with Max. Ming describes Archie as “the family therapy dog”. He is a strong presence during their travels, regularly plays with them, and tries to be helpful when the family gardens. However, he also has some unorthodox habits like chasing houseflies, a routine that the Zhou family greatly enjoys.
Archie has a special respect for his home, refusing to poop near it. But above all, Archie loves to walk. The Mill Creek Nature Preserve, a long loop of hills and parks, is a large part of Archie’s life because it is within walking distance to the Zhou’s home. Also, he is a huge fan of hikes. Archie’s first hike was when he was very young. Ming and her husband were eager new parents, bundling Archie in a blue jacket. However, they had to carry him most of the way, as Archie got tired quickly.
Ming’s favorite moment was when Archie found a cool patch of moss under a tree. Without hesitation, he immediately plopped down and remained there for the next 15 minutes. “It was too cute,” Ming gushed while recounting the events. And others agree. Archie has gained a presence on Instagram, with many followers keeping up with his doings. Archie is an incredible dog, displaying strong intelligence and serenity through his actions. But above all, he is the best boy.
