Henry M. Jackson Vocalist, Madeline Carlson, Wins 1st at State Competition

Madeline performs the national anthem at the Mariners Game on June 23rd.

We want to extend a huge congratulations to Henry M. Jackson senior, Madeline Carlson, who placed 1st in the Washington State Solo & Ensemble contest in the Soprano Division. This is no easy feat, but when you hear about her background it is easy to see how she achieved such an amazing accomplishment.

Madeline has been singing all her life, but didn't start formal training until she auditioned and won the part of Ariel in the Heatherwood Middle School production of The Little Mermaid. She has also performed in Mary Poppins and The Addams Family and most recently played the role of Jo in Little Women at Henry M. Jackson.

This is Madeline's second win at the State Solo & Ensemble contest. There is one round of adjudication at the District level before the top performers move on to the State level, where they compete against students from across Washington.

Some highlights of Madeline's year have included singing the National Anthem at several high school events. But even more exciting was the invitation she received to sing at T-Mobile Park before a recent Mariners game.

Madeline will be attending Western Washington University in Bellingham in the fall on a vocal performance scholarship (no big surprise!) and would like to teach one day.

Congratulations on all your accomplishments, Madeline, and best wishes to you in the future!
