Bill and Carol Arkell have been residents of the Sun Rose development in Mill Creek for 36 years. In 1986, when they moved into the community, they were looking for a secure and family-friendly environment to raise their two active boys. They aimed to recreate the forested setting they had cherished during their own upbringing, complete with a beautiful yard for family enjoyment.
Today they relish their life in this community for a multitude of reasons. Their charming rambler is nestled in a cul-de-sac surrounded by wonderful neighbors. Over the years, they've made adjustments, such as moving the foundation closer to the street to create a more expansive backyard. The greenbelt behind their home, along with the presence of two schools, grants them a sense of privacy and tranquility that they greatly appreciate.
One of the standout features of their property is the peaceful backyard. With an abundance of trees, they have adorned it with hanging baskets, numerous rhododendrons, and evergreens. A delightful walking trail winds through their wooded area, providing a soothing escape within their property.
What sets their yard apart is the presence of a large TV on their deck, accompanied by a captivating waterfall. This picturesque scene overlooks their extensive forested yard, creating a perfect setting for relaxation. Whether it's watching the Mariners or golf on TV, or simply listening to the melodies of the birds, this space offers them endless enjoyment.
Of course, their yard has undergone transformations since their arrival. Initially tailored to their young boys' needs with a sandbox, swing set, and basketball hoop, it has since evolved. The swing set found a new home with a grandma and her grandchildren during the Mill Creek Annual Garage sale, marking the start of a landscaping journey. They installed a sprinkler system, relocated trees and shrubs, and introduced a nature trail. Furthermore, they expanded their deck after 15 years, opting for a larger composite one that better suited their lifestyle.
Their beautiful garden truly comes to life between April and October. During this time, they relish the outdoor living experience, taking advantage of the seclusion and tranquility that comes with the end of the school year and reduced traffic. The mature trees offer ample shade, while summer hanging baskets and potted plants dot the landscape, adding color and vibrancy. Their three-year-old chocolate lab happily joins in on the fun, frolicking through the woods, chasing rabbits, and dutifully guarding his territory. The Arkells have cultivated a haven of natural beauty and serenity that they cherish year-round in their picturesque Mill Creek home.
