Where/why did you get your pet?
After our little daughter begged for a cat for a year, we finally started our search. AiLin insisted that she would only adopt a tuxie, and it had to have green eyes! I never realized that this was such a rare combination, and that tuxedo cats typically have gold eyes. We looked online, at Feline Friends of Sammamish, and at Seattle Humane. At our last stop, we finally found a tuxie with green eyes: she had been adopted and then returned to the shelter for biting. We adopted her anyway. The first six months were a little rough, as we carefully respected Lotus's boundaries, while she inflicted violence on us. But she learned that we love her unconditionally, and now she reciprocates our affection.

We wanted a graceful name that hints at Jingwei's culture. The same day we adopted the cat, I received a shipment of lotus seeds from China. The cat thrived! The lotus seeds did not.

What do you like best about your pet?
She is sweet, affectionate, soft; she comes when she’s called, and she follows us EVERYWHERE.

Any funny stories?
She was completely silent for the first several weeks, then she began trying out her voice. At first, she could only say "Ow" and "Ew." She still doesn’t meow properly, but she has come up with some unique vocalizations: "Mat-Wat," "Mit-Wit," "Mat-AT-Wat," and our favorite, "Moo-Moo-Rrrauw?"

How spoiled is your pet?
Very. She loves the Extra Gravy wet cat food, but only eats the gravy, leaving the food untouched. She also refuses to eat dry food before noon.

What else should we know about your pet and/or how your pet has enriched your home/family?
She provides us with constant entertainment. She snuggles up to Jingwei and hugs his arm. She helps AiLin calm down for bed when she is too wired, purring her to sleep.
