A Ray of Sunshine: The Adventures of Sunny the Dog
Sunny is very intelligent and does your standard tricks. He sits, shakes, spins, and lets you rest a treat on his nose until you say okay, among other things.
Sunny, a four-year-old male goldendoodle, joined us four years ago as a Christmas present for kids who absolutely adore him.
Six months before Sunny, we brought a kitten home. She looked light but gray, similar to the Moon. We named her Luna to “match.” When we got Sunny, we realized how bright and shiny his coat was. Thinking of the moon for Luna, we named him Sunny for the Sun.
One of Sunny's (annoying at times) but most hilarious things is “eat dinner” with us. If we sit down to eat, he goes to his food. Also, if he’s out of food, he will smack the food dish and water bowl with his nose to let us know he’s out and demand we fill them.
He LOVES stuffed animals. He loves to tear it apart and rip ALL the cotton out of them.
One of my favorite moments with Sunny was taking him for a hike at Nights Ferry. He was having a great time taking in all the new smells, etc…., when I felt a massive tug (which I don’t usually feel) on the leash. He saw horses for the first time, completely freaked out, and tried to run for his life. While I felt sorry for him in the moment, it was funny to see him freak out over those gentle, slow-moving horses.
Sunny’s best friend is Apollo, who lives across the street. They love each other but are hectic as a team, so they don’t spend much time together.
Anytime he gets to ride in the car, he’s pumped. So, he’s the first in the car anywhere we're willing to take him. One of his favorite places to go is Ace Hardware because of the attention and milk bones.
We’ve lived in Oakdale for about five years now. We love how much support we’ve received here. Our business has taken off with all the local support, from the people wanting to help small businesses to the Mayor shouting us out. It’s been incredibly helpful.
