The Pafumi Family
33 Years of Paso Robles Love & Life
Can you introduce your family and share a bit about yourselves?
I'm Monica Pafumi, and I am the Principal of Virginia Peterson Elementary. I graduated as a Bearcat, and have proudly worked my entire career in the Paso Robles School District. My husband, Martin Pafumi, is also a PRHS graduate. He is a Correctional Deputy Sheriff for the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department. Taylor (Pafumi) Philips, is our daughter. She is a School Psychologist for Lewis Flamson Junior High School, and is married to Zac Phillips, a Lineman for PG&E. Our son, Trevor, is 22 years old and is a General Contractor. He went through the CTE (Career and Technical Education) program at Paso Robles High School. Trevor is engaged to Morgan Carter, 21, a hairdresser in Paso Robles. We are excited about becoming grandparents this year! Trevor and Morgan are due in March, and Zac and Taylor are due in May. Both couples are welcoming boys.
Where are you and your spouse originally from, and what brought you here?
I was born in Orange County, Ca, and moved to Templeton at the age of 6. Martin moved here from Massachusetts when he was 10 with his mom and sister in order to be with family.
How did you and your spouse meet?
I was a high school sophomore, and was taking a psychology class at Cuesta College that was being taught at Paso Robles High School in the evenings. Martin was in the same class. That was 33 years ago!
Do you have any pets? Tell us a little bit about them.
We have a dog named Diesel who is 9 years old, he's small but mighty. Our cat, Boo, was inherited when our daughter was attending Cal Poly, and her roommates thought it would be fun to get a cat for their dorm. When they found out that dorm residents cannot have pets, our family lived the closest so we ended up with our first and only cat! We also have 6 Chickens which are named Ms. California, Poppy, Red, Feathers, Dolly, and Betty.
Can you highlight any unique talents or interests that each family member brings to the mix?
Martin is an avid fisherman and fishes as much as possible! Bass fishing is primarily what he loves. Monica attempts to be a mini farmer with chickens and a garden. It is a work in progress!
What are your favorite places to visit in Paso Robles (restaurants, food markets, shops, parks, clubs, hangout spots, etc.)?
We love La Mexicana, and our family has been going there for years! Lake Nacimiento is a family favorite, we have been going there to fish and do water activities since our kids were little. Our kids still love going there to Wake Surf. We all like to go to the downtown area to walk around and shop. We really enjoy visiting the wineries. Some of our favorite wineries are Hearst, Rava, and Peachy Canyon. My brother-in-law is the Wine Maker there!
Do you participate in any social activities or events in the neighborhood?
We love going to concerts at Cal Coast Brewery with Martin's sister and his brother-in-law, Concerts in the park during the summer, the Mid-State Fair, the Paso Robles Pioneer Day Parade, and of course the Vine Street Showcase at Christmas!
