Meet Bristol and Beckham!

Short Legs, tall ears, and a loaf of bread in between

GPR: What breed are you?
Bristol: We are Pembroke Welsh Corgis.

GPR: Where were you born?
Bristol: Tehachapi, CA
Beckham: Visalia, CA

GPR: Who is older?
Bristol: I am older, and I am also heavier and wiser. Beckham is 3 years younger and has more energy.

GPR: Tell me about your differences and personalities?
Beckham: Neither of us like to be held. We prefer to be on a cold floor than in someone’s hot lap. We both love to run on the beach, but I hate the water! Bristol loves the water and will even swim with our human mom.
Bristol: We both love to herd. We will herd anything we can! Our favorite is when the kids are swimming. We run around the pool at full speed, barking and making sure that none of the kids exit the pool. If they do exit, we nip at their heels until they get back in the water.

GPR: What do you enjoy most about living in Paso Robles?
Bristol: I enjoy the weather and the property we live on because we have a lot of room to run and eat grass. We get in trouble for eating grass though, because it hurts our tummies.
Beckham: Being so close to the beach. Meeting other corgis in the area.

GPR: What is your favorite thing to do?
Bristol: Eat.
Beckham: Eat.

GPR: Is there anything that is difficult about being a corgi?
Beckham: We get made fun of all the time. People say our ears are huge and that our butts wiggle too much when we walk.
Bristol: We also get laughed at because we have short legs. We’ve been called “loaves of bread” and “tree stumps” by other dogs we meet. It’s difficult for us to jump very high because of our low center of gravity.

GPR: Those are such mean things to say! I’m sure you wish that people would be more kind and accepting of your physical appearance?
Bristol: We just want them to feed us.
Beckham: That’s true. Our family makes us eat in slow-down bowls so that we don’t inhale the food to quickly. It’s very frustrating, so we really enjoy when strangers give us treats. They have to throw them in the air so we catch them because otherwise we will bite their fingers off as we’re trying to get it out of their hands and into our mouths at record speed.

GPR: What are some differences between your breed and others?
Beckham: We lay in very odd positions. We usually are on our backs in a contorted position.
Bristol: When we run, our back legs stay together. We are the best breed of dog that there is and sometimes that makes other dogs jealous. We shed year-round. Did we mention that we love to eat?
