GPR: Can you provide an overview of the initiative or project you're involved in and its mission?

DP: I'm the General Manager and Head Coach of the American Legion Area 6, Post 50 Coastal Cowboys Baseball program for players ages 16–19. Our mission is to provide a quality baseball experience while developing young athletes both on and off the field under the 125-year legacy of the American Legion.

GPR: What types of services or programs does the Coastal Cowboys offer?

DP: We provide an affordable opportunity for high school and college-bound baseball players to continue competing and developing their skills. As a player development-focused startup team, we're built on teamwork, accountability, and strong principles. We like to think of ourselves as a throwback alternative—focused on the fundamentals of baseball and character.

GPR: What's your role with the organization, and how long have you been involved?

DP: I serve as the General Manager and Head Coach, helping lead the program while overseeing player development, team operations, and community engagement.

GPR: What inspired you to dedicate your time and effort to this cause?

DP: I saw too many players getting lost in the mix and recognized a need for another opportunity where they could continue to grow. Partnering with the American Legion also has personal meaning to me. My father served in the Army, and my father-in-law is a Marine, so supporting a veteran-based organization is something I'm proud to be part of.

GPR: What challenges have you encountered, and how have you worked to overcome them?

DP: Like many new organizations, securing practice fields and sponsors has been our biggest challenge. It's an ongoing process, but we're making steady progress thanks to strong community support and people who believe in what we're building.

GPR: In what ways have you seen your efforts positively impact the community? What's been the most rewarding part?

DP: The support from our parents has been incredible. Watching families rally around the players and the program has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this experience.

GPR: Are there any upcoming projects, fundraisers, or events you're excited about? How can the community get involved?

DP: Every player completes a Capstone Project designed to make a meaningful impact in the community. It's an opportunity for our athletes to give back while developing leadership skills. Community members can support our program by following our work, partnering as sponsors, and encouraging these young athletes in their efforts.

GPR: Is there anything else you'd like readers to know about the Coastal Cowboys?

DP: We're a nine-week seasonal program dedicated to developing baseball players and helping young men grow into leaders, teammates, and active members of their communities.
