Norton, a Dorkie (Dachshund/Yorkshire Terrier mix), lives with Jon and Jaquie Cole, longtime Ridgefield residents and lifelong lovers of small dogs. After saying goodbye to two beloved companions, they found Norton, who was born in Astoria, Oregon, in April 2022, and instantly knew he belonged with their family. He officially joined them that July.

From the very beginning, Norton was playful, affectionate, and full of personality. His enthusiastic "super dog" puppy lunges quickly earned him the nickname Norton Commando Cole, inspired by the classic Norton Commando motorcycle.

These days, Norton enjoys "helping" with the laundry by hopping into baskets of warm towels. His favorite toys include a squeaky iced latte, and he never turns down a crunchy carrot treat.

When he's not playing, you'll often find him stretched out in a sunny spot, curled up beside the pellet stove, or relaxing in his favorite chair with his fish blanket. Each morning, he races to his food bowl before settling onto his warmed blanket, ready to switch from cozy companion to energetic adventurer in an instant.

Although Norton isn't a fan of car rides, his family says, "He's taught us how to be content staying at home." Their favorite adventures together are simple walks along the Ridgefield waterfront loop. If you're lucky, you might even spot Norton proudly wearing his signature Fred Flintstone necktie.

According to his family, Norton always has an agenda and likes to be in charge. He's friendly with nearly everyone he meets, although squirrels and cats can quickly steal his attention. Whether he's keeping watch from the couch or sounding the alarm at passing wildlife, Norton always keeps life interesting.

"He's such a sweet and funny boy that we're smiling and laughing about him all the time," his family says.

They especially appreciate how gentle he is with children and how quickly he learned to use the dog door. "Norton truly enriches our lives, and we're lucky to have him."

Judging by the smile on his face, Norton feels just as lucky to have found them.
