Public Course, Club Spirit
The Jack Tone Golf Club began shortly after the creation of the Ripon Golf Club, formerly, Jack Tone Golf Course. Although it is independent of the course, tournaments are played there every third Saturday of the month.
In the club’s early days, Mike Alves played a key role in organizing tournaments. Approximately 20 years ago, Mark Miller took over leadership, guiding the club through continued growth. In 2026, the club expanded its leadership structure to eight elected board members. Ripon Golf Club professional Greg Feddersen serves as the club’s liaison.
Monthly tournaments feature a variety of individual and two-person team formats. All members carry USGA indexes, allowing golfers of all skill levels a fair chance to compete. Tournaments typically include closest-to-the-pin contests on at least two holes. Each year, the club also crowns both a men’s and women’s club champion, based on the lowest gross score over two days.
The Jack Tone Golf Club boasts more than 120 members, with an average of 50 men and women participating in monthly tournaments. Prize winnings are credited to players’ course accounts and may be used for anything at the golf course. While most members live in Ripon or nearby communities, some travel from as far as Elk Grove, Roseville, and Lafayette to take part.
Skill levels vary widely. Some players occasionally shoot in the 60s on the par-62 executive course, while others score in the 90s. Some members play nearly every day, while others join in once a month or less. Whether you are new to the game or a seasoned golfer, the atmosphere is welcoming and fun. Juniors, women, and seniors are always encouraged to participate.
Annual membership in the Jack Tone Golf Club is $60, which includes a USGA membership. Tournament entry is $10 per event for the prize fund, plus greens fees. Interested golfers can contact the course directly to pick up a membership form and begin playing in monthly tournaments as their schedule allows.
It’s a joy to compete, connect, and enjoy golf in a variety of formats at Jack Tone.
