Preserving American Performance

John McCarthy’s rare Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition is more than a car — it’s automotive history on wheels.

John McCarthy’s 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition is the kind of car that immediately stops enthusiasts in their tracks. Finished in rare Inferno Orange Metallic and showing just over 2,000 original miles, the car remains completely factory original, right down to its original wheels and tires, carefully preserved in climate-controlled storage.

One of only 12 export versions ever produced in this exact configuration, the Carbon Edition combined Chevrolet’s legendary hand-built 7.0L LS7 engine with lightweight carbon fiber components inspired by the Corvette ZR1 program. The result was a raw, driver-focused machine built during an era before performance cars became dominated by screens, filters, and electronic intervention.

“What I love most about the car is how connected it feels,” John says. “Everything about it is mechanical, lightweight, and engaging in a way that’s becoming harder to find today.”

The naturally aspirated engine, manual transmission, lightweight chassis, and extensive use of carbon fiber create a driving experience many enthusiasts consider one of the last true analog American performance cars.

The Corvette also carries an unforgettable story. After nearly a year of searching, John tracked the car down in Montreal, Canada. He flew there, purchased the car, loaded it onto a U-Haul trailer, and made the 2,000-mile journey back to Sugar Land with his father. The road trip included a border delay, an unfortunate run-in with a deer, and a late-night roadside repair just to keep moving.

“Honestly, the stories surrounding these cars become just as meaningful as the cars themselves,” John shares. That same passion for preservation and car culture eventually inspired the creation of Weekend Drive Garage,  giving fellow enthusiasts a place to properly store, protect, and enjoy the vehicles they love most.
