Riverstone's Shane Thomas graduates high school a year early and sets his sights on entrepreneurship, innovation, and making an impact.
At just 17 years old, Shane Thomas is already proving that ambition, discipline, and determination can accelerate the path toward big dreams.
A lifelong Riverstone resident and member of the Elkins High School Class of 2026, Shane accomplished something few students achieve—he graduated high school in just three years after completing his academic requirements ahead of schedule.
Originally enrolled in Elkins' Engineering Academy, Shane's strong work ethic and focus allowed him to advance quickly and begin the next chapter of his educational journey sooner than expected.
This fall, Shane will attend the University of Houston's Bauer College of Business Honors Program, where he plans to major in Finance. His long-term goal is to combine his passion for business, technology, and investing to become an entrepreneur who creates innovative solutions, new opportunities, and meaningful community impact.
While academics have played an important role in his success, Shane has always been active beyond the classroom. A dedicated athlete, he competed in track and field at Elkins and previously played basketball and football. He also serves as a sound technician at his church, where he enjoys being involved in ministry and community activities.
One of Shane's favorite high school memories came on the track.
"Winning district track meets and celebrating with my teammates afterward is something I'll never forget," he shares.
Today, Shane continues to gain valuable real-world experience through his part-time work with an event management company. The opportunity has given him firsthand exposure to business operations and strengthened his interest in entrepreneurship.
As he prepares to begin college, Shane remains grateful for the community that helped shape him.
Having spent all 17 years of his life in Riverstone, he considers the neighborhood a special part of his story and looks forward to carrying those lessons with him into the future.
His favorite quote perfectly reflects his mindset:

With a strong foundation, clear vision, and a willingness to work hard, Shane is already well on his way.
