From Swim Meets to Family Adventures: Meet the Calderons

Tucked into the heart of University Park, the Calderon family has built a vibrant, community-centered life filled with activity, travel, and plenty of quality time together. Franco and Gladys, both originally from Peru, have called the neighborhood home for the past eight years, where they are raising their two children, Valentina (13) and Sebastian (10), along with their beloved dog, Snowy.
Franco works as a business consultant, while Gladys is a tax accountant, but outside of their professional lives, family time takes center stage. Much of that time is spent enjoying shared interests or supporting their children’s passions. Valentina is a competitive swimmer with a creative side—she loves baking, reading, writing, and dancing. Sebastian, also a competitive swimmer, balances athletics with his love for art, ninja warrior obstacle courses, and action movies. Both kids have already made a meaningful impact in their community, having been recognized as “20 Under 40 Youth on the Rise” by People’s Newspaper in 2022 for their nonprofit work benefiting children in need throughout the Dallas area.
At home, Snowy, their 8-year-old Bichon Frise, is very much part of the family. With his fluffy white coat and gentle personality, he adds a playful and comforting presence to their busy household.
When they’re not at swim meets or working on creative projects, the Calderons enjoy spending time outdoors and around the neighborhood. You can often find them visiting local favorites like Germany Park or Goar Park, or stopping by Inwood Village and Preston Center for shopping and dining. Some of their go-to restaurants include Asian Mint, Rise, Mesero, José, and Bistro 31.
Travel is another shared passion, with favorite destinations including Italy, Greece, Peru, Spain, and the Dominican Republic. Whether abroad or closer to home, the family values experiences that bring them together. For relaxation, they often escape to the ranch or unwind at the beach—simple moments that help them recharge from their full schedules.
What the Calderon family appreciates most about University Park is the strong sense of community. From their involvement at HP Presbyterian Church to the friendly neighbors, safe streets, and well-kept parks, they’ve found a place that truly feels like home. It’s a neighborhood where their children can thrive, friendships are easily formed, and family life is enriched every day.
For the Calderons, University Park isn’t just where they live—it’s where their family continues to grow, connect, and create lasting memories together.
