The Heart Behind the Care
As a proud West Bellevue resident, John DePalma has found his purpose not just in where he lives, but in how he serves—turning personal experience into compassionate home care as the Owner and Care Champion of Touching Hearts at Home.
John with his family
Before moving to the Enatai community of Bellevue in 2018 with his wife, Amanda, and their two sons, Joshua and Luke, John spent more than two decades working in strategy, operations, and technology consulting, helping organizations innovate and grow. During that time, he learned how to guide companies at every stage—from launching start-ups and managing businesses to expanding operations and leading turnarounds. The principles that guided his career were instilled in John by his parents, Vera and Jack. He recalled, “My mom and dad provided my brother and me with everything we needed, and often what we wanted, while maintaining a balanced perspective on what’s most important—integrity, commitment, hard work, and a deep-rooted connection with people.”
When John’s father was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, what began as a career built on strategy and growth would ultimately evolve into a mission dedicated to service and care. John took on the role of family caregiver and soon realized the challenges inherent in navigating the healthcare system. Managing his father’s care and treatments from afar soon became too difficult—prompting him to move his parents to Seattle. “When my dad chose to spend his final days at home, living with dignity and respect, I honored that wish through a combination of in-home care and hospice care,” John shared. After his father’s passing in 2022, John shifted his focus to caring for his mother, who battled mobility challenges and other ailments. After a brief period of living alone, John moved his mother into an Independent Living Community in Bellevue where she continues to get the care and support she deserves.
Caring for his parents revealed a clear need for quality in-home care in Bellevue. In June 2025, he opened Touching Hearts at Home to meet that need—offering personalized support for seniors, individuals living with medical conditions or disabilities, those recovering from hospital stays, and anyone over 18 seeking compassionate, professional care. Their services include companionship, personal care, Alzheimer’s and Dementia care, respite care, post-operative support, and virtual care monitoring. “We’re proud to provide compassionate and personalized care to our clients and we’re committed to making a meaningful difference in their quality of life,” John said.
The Touching Hearts at Home philosophy includes getting to know each client on a personal level, understanding their specific needs, caring for them, and easing their way with activities of daily living. Their personalized approach helps seniors maintain their independence, providing a reliable support system that enables them to age in place with dignity, respect, and comfort while providing the family with peace of mind knowing their loved ones are safe and cared for. “All of our caregivers are bonded, insured, and professionally trained/certified to deliver in-home, non-medical care to ensure your loved ones receive the attention and assistance needed,” John explained.
Rather than sending a random caregiver into the home, families are encouraged to schedule a free in-home consultation to share their unique situation and service needs. “As Care Champion, I personally conduct the initial consultation as it’s an important step in developing trust and a customized care plan that truly reflects each client’s lifestyle and preferences,” added John. “This allows me to match the best caregiver to each client based on knowledge, skill, experience, and personality, while creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience for both parties, fostering a sense of trust and rapport that can lead to long-lasting friendships.”
To best support his company's mission of providing compassionate and personalized care that helps clients live safely, comfortably, and independently at home, he has partnered with Sensi—an innovative virtual care companion that works quietly in the background, around the clock. “By combining Sensi’s technology with our caregivers’ human touch, we’re able to provide holistic care—supporting your loved one’s physical safety, emotional well-being, and independence,” he shared.
Since opening, Touching Hearts at Home has made a meaningful mark on the Bellevue community. Clients are already commending them for their caring and timely assistance, their compassionate staff, and the impressive services they provide. That impact goes both ways—touching not only the lives of those they serve, but John’s heart as well. “We recently helped a new client who relocated here from the Bay Area. After learning of their needs and developing a personalized care plan, I matched them to their perfect caregiver,” John recalled. “We assisted them in unpacking, organizing their new home, and caring for them as if they were part of our family. We introduced them to other local senior resources and even dropped by with a latte and pastry from a local bakery to welcome them to the community.”
The team at Touching Hearts at Home is passionate about delivering exceptional care to those living in Bellevue and surrounding areas. Whether it’s services offered through their agency or partnerships with like-minded organizations like the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce or Bellevue Network on Aging, they ensure every senior has the support needed to live a comfortable and fulfilling life. They also collaborate with local hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, rehab/physical therapy facilities, independent living, assisted living, memory care, and senior community centers, and have relationships with discharge planners, care coordinators, case managers, and social workers. “Nothing compares to the community, lifestyle, amenities, and culture of West Bellevue,” John shared. “It’s truly a privilege to serve here.”
For John, every act of care is more than a service—it’s a way of giving back to the community he and his family are proud to call home.
