Everybody should experience the vibrancy of Spring Rock Park.

In a time when our town square has largely moved online to social media, where life is often presented in 30 second snippets, Spring Rock reminds us what community actually feels like. On any given weeknight you'll find excitement, laughter, competition, and friendships. Kids are playing games, parents are talking by the bleachers, grandparents are cheering with pride, and younger siblings are running from field to playground delaying going home.

While it may not be our Village Green, Spring Rock has become Western Springs' modern day town square, and WSLL wants to bring more people there, more often.

Yes, we are a baseball and softball league with games won and lost, outs recorded, balls hit, and runs scored. But Little League has always been about much more than baseball. It brings together children from every school in town, puts them on the same team, teaches them to compete, support one another, make new friends, and grow together. Along the way, parents do the same, reconnecting with neighbors, building new friendships, and making our community just a little bit smaller.

We believe Spring Rock embodies that vision, which is why WSLL continues to invest in making it a destination for families.

Working alongside our outstanding partners at the Western Springs Park District, we continue to improve Spring Rock through new facilities, expanded programming, and community events. Last season we opened our new batting cages. This year we renovated B West to support both baseball and softball. Looking ahead, we are constructing another field in the northwest corner of the park while continuing to expand family nights, food trucks, and special events that give people even more reasons to gather.

One of those events has become a favorite tradition: our annual Home Run Derby. Hundreds of people gather to watch our 12U baseball and softball players compete in a fun, festive atmosphere, expertly emceed by Carmen Defalco, with the champions earning their place on our beautiful Champions Wall. What began as Jim Sur's passion project and has since been carried forward by Jon Moog is another reminder that Spring Rock is about much more than the games themselves.

As we wrap up another great season, we have much to celebrate. Hundreds of families participated in WSLL this spring, including many experiencing Little League for the first time. Our tournament teams are now preparing for another exciting summer, including our 12U District Team as they begin another run toward the Little League World Series after capturing the Illinois State Championship in 2025. We are also fortunate to welcome two recent Nazareth Academy graduates and former WSLL players back as coaches, bringing their experience and enthusiasm to our 11U and 12U players. That's something an aging dad who can pull a muscle reaching for the television remote simply can't replicate.

Of everything we celebrate each season, however, nothing means more than the Matt Orth Award, presented to one player on every team who best represents kindness, leadership, sportsmanship, and friendship. It celebrates the goodness of a child's character rather than simply their athletic ability. In many ways, it represents everything WSLL hopes to teach and we hold the ceremony at Spring Rock Park.

None of this would be possible without our volunteers, coaches, sponsors, and community partners. We are especially grateful to the first-place Chicago White Sox, whose continued support helps provide uniforms for every player each season.
