“Never, never, never get your hopes up too high

Because you will always, always, always turn out disappointed.

But yet I keep, keep, keep trusting hope

Because if you hope, hope, hope you will never get discouraged.”

The words above were written by one of your neighbors, Azalea Scott, a young author who has a love for reading, writing and creating beautiful stories. Azalea and her brother, Oliver, participate in a number of activities that showcase their talents and the things they love, whether that's inventing a storyline or playing golf at the Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club.

Azalea is 11 years old and attends Voss Middle School. She has always had a passion not only for reading but also writing her own books. As a first grader, she wrote a book series with her friends about the adventures of Mr. Boxyhead, a man made entirely out of boxes. 

A project she did in elementary school led Azalea to write about her goals and discuss them with the school’s principal. When Azalea shared her goals, she mentioned a story she created about a fight for animals’ rights to be freed from the zoo, and the principal encouraged her to write a whole book about it. So, Azalea put pen to paper and composed R.O.A.R. Agents (Rights of Animals Rebellion).

Azalea’s imagination did not stop with books. Next, Azalea set out to write a musical titled “The Greatest Escape in Animal History,” expressing her love for songwriting as well. She has found creative ways to voice her strong opinion against zoos while also expressing her passion for writing.

When she is not jotting down her most recent story inspirations, Azalea spends her time practicing for her Streamline Aquatics swim team.

“I am very competitive and work oh so hard in achieving as much as possible and always pushing my limits. I am reaching for a college scholarship and hoping to make it to the Olympics!” Azalea said.

Aspiring to someday be a New York Times bestselling author and Olympic swimmer, Azalea Scott has an abundance of gifts to bless others.

The very same thing can be said about her brother, Oliver. Oliver is 7 years old and attends Herff Elementary School. He also participates in swim team with his sister, and he plays for the PGA Junior League at the Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club.

His interest in golf was first sparked when his grandma came to live with their family and would pick Oliver up from school. They lived on the golf course, so when the two of them arrived home, they would walk around the course and collect golf balls. Oliver decided he wanted to give the sport a try, and he has played ever since. He even won the Most Improved Player award at the end of his latest season.

Time spent with his grandma not only inspired his love for golf but for learning Spanish, too. Oliver’s grandma is fluent in the language, so Oliver wanted to learn Spanish while she learned English. He has now had the opportunity to speak it when traveling, which is something the Scott family loves to do together.

The Scotts are avid tourists and cherish memories made during trips to Chile, St. Martin, Mexico City, Boston and a number of other adventurous locations. They plan to enjoy many more travels in the years ahead. When they aren’t catching flights, they are grateful to call Fair Oaks Ranch home.
