We are the Abuzeid family: George and Whitney, and our four boys: Nelson (16), Harrison (14), Thatcher (12), and Porter (10).

Life in our household is full, active, and centered around family, faith, and a steady mix of sports, music, entrepreneurship, and travel. George and Whitney’s path together have included military service, aviation, business ownership, and public service. George once ran for Mayor of Fair Oaks Ranch in 2008 while finishing his political science degree at UTSA, and years later ran for U.S. Congress in South Carolina in 2022.

Whitney’s love of travel has shaped much of our family’s rhythm. She continues to travel internationally with the boys, who have each now logged more than 50 flights. For them, travel isn’t an occasional event, it's part of life.

Alongside raising four boys through years of deployments and flight schedules, Whitney developed a strong interest in construction and design. Friends know her well for preferring power tools over traditional gifts, and she has successfully remodeled four homes, mostly on her own. Her hands-on mindset has even led to talk that she may one day start a construction company of her own.

Faith and service are also woven into their weekly routine. The boys attend Bible study with the Lora Beth and Javier Escalante all boys youth group, and Whitney recently joined them in volunteering at Reach Teach Love, Inc through Cibolo Creek Community Church, an experience that left a lasting impression on the family.

Although the family moved back to Fair Oaks Ranch last August, George’s story with the Hill Country begins much earlier. He grew up here in the 1990s after his parents relocated from Miami when his father accepted a UPS transfer to San Antonio. Fair Oaks Ranch was where he spent his formative years, long before life took him into aviation and the military. He and his brothers played in (usually dry) Cibolo Creek and spent summer evenings playing manhunt in the tall grass of the (formerly) empty lots around their parents' house, having to dig chiggers out of their skin before bed.

Whitney was born in Alabama during her father’s Army helicopter training. She grew up primarily in Beaufort, South Carolina. A high school Rotary exchange program led her to earning a scholarship and exchange student program to Switzerland. This became a defining experience, where she learned German and discovered a lifelong love for international culture and travel.

George went on to serve 12 years as a naval aviator in the United States Navy before transitioning to American Airlines. After several years based in Charlotte, the family ultimately made their way back to Texas, drawn by family and the desire to raise their boys in Fair Oaks Ranch - the best place in Texas, according to George! Now confirmed by Whitney.

Our story begins in Washington, D.C. during the 2008 recession - a season of uncertainty.

After graduating from UTSA with a degree in Political Science, George was working as a commercial pilot when the aviation industry slowed dramatically. He moved to DC briefly, where he met Whitney, who had just returned from a backpacking trap in South America after graduating from the College of Charleston with a degree in International Business and a minor in German. Their connection was immediate. Both would later admit they barely knew each other at the time. After just 58 days of dating, George proposed, and six months later they were married. What followed was a life built quickly and intensely: four children, multiple deployments, and seven moves; each chapter chaotic, but always worth it. 

 Aside from raising four young boys, Whitney works part-time as a travel advisor with Travel Planners, Inc., a role she has held for more than a decade and one that continues to align with her lifelong love of travel.

George currently serves as a Captain for American Airlines. After 12 years in the Navy, he transitioned to commercial aviation in 2019. Before his military service, he worked at USAA as an insurance agent. His early political interest, reflected in his 2008 mayoral run in Fair Oaks Ranch and later congressional campaign in South Carolina in 2022, remains part of his broader story of public service and leadership, also reflected in his master’s degree in government from Johns Hopkins University. He also runs Three Green Consulting, helping military aviators prepare for airline interviews and transition into civilian aviation careers.

The boys each bring their own energy into the mix. Nelson, going into 11th grade at Bracken Christian Academy, balances basketball and guitar, and often heads out by bike to the Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club to stay active. He’s involved in community service through Bracken Serves and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Harrison is the family’s thrill-seeker, drawn to mountain biking and percussion. He's starting glider lessons this summer and started his own pressure-washing business. He will head to Champion High School next year, where marching band is something, he is especially excited about.

Thatcher is 12, and splits his time between football, soccer, playing the tuba at Boerne Middle School South, and mountain biking with his brothers.

Porter, the youngest, has already developed an entrepreneurial streak of his own. Between soccer, stop-motion video projects, and a growing 3D-printing business creating toys and pickleball accessories, he can often be found setting up shop around Fair Oaks Ranch.

Outside of work, Whitney and George enjoy traveling, spending time at wineries and, most of all, being with family. George's parents are still in Fair Oaks, and several of his siblings also live in the area. Although it has only been a year since making their home in Fair Oaks Ranch, the Abuzeids are happy to be in George’s hometown, close to family and friends.
