When Larry and Esther Thal planted grapevines on their Lamorinda property to solve an erosion problem, they never expected to open a boutique tasting room. But that's exactly the kind of story Local Vines was made for.

The name says it all: Local Vines is dedicated exclusively to wines crafted from grapes grown within the Lamorinda AVA, or made by winemakers who call this region home. It's a cooperative of local growers showcasing small-batch wines and ciders in a welcoming, boutique urban setting in Lafayette. ~ Think connection, conversation, and easy hospitality, whether you're stopping in for a tasting or hosting an intimate private gathering.

The concept grew out of the community as much as the land. When Lamorinda earned its AVA designation, county supervisors challenged the Lamorinda Wine Growers Association to create a venue celebrating local vintners. That challenge sparked a conversation, a strategic plan, and ultimately...Local Vines.

Larry and Esther have been part of the Lafayette community since 1996. What started as a practical decision became a deep sense of belonging. "Lamorinda is our home," Larry reflects. "Hopefully, people who walk through our doors feel that same sense of community and welcomeness that we share with our friends and neighbors."

This isn't a wine bar, yet a destination for discovery. All wines are curated by an independent board of experts, and every bottle can be tasted before purchase, ensuring each customer finds something that suits their palate.
