Care, Give & Connect
Assembling Eyeglasses for the Lions Club
Moraga Community Service Day (CSD) was born from something that comes naturally to Moraga: a strong spirit of volunteerism and a genuine desire to help others.
Founder Mike McCluer was inspired by a similar community service event in Pleasant Hill and saw an opportunity to create an annual event that would bring Moraga’s generous community together. By offering a wide range of projects for people of all ages and interests, CSD encourages both longtime volunteers and those who may be volunteering for the first time to get involved.
The mission is simple: help those in need locally and globally, support our schools and parks, and beautify our community. A diverse Leadership Team representing Moraga’s service organizations, schools, businesses and Town has helped bring that mission to life.
Over its first four years, CSD has organized an average of 20 projects each year, generating more than 20,000 humanitarian products annually with the help of 500–1,000 volunteers. Projects have included assembling eyeglasses for global vision programs, creating care kits for underserved women, donating food and clothing to those experiencing homelessness, supporting veterans and local first responders, beautifying schools and parks, and creating holiday cards for nonprofit organizations.
This year brings even more ways to participate, including animal rescue services, discounted dog grooming benefiting Pets of the Homeless, free garden seed packets through the library, and school-supply donations for students in need.
