A Taste of Coastal Mexico Lands in Snider Plaza
Liquid dessert: Carajillo Tradicional
Sueno has arrived!
And with it, Snider Plaza's transformation may now be complete. It certainly has upped its food game; fine restaurants abound and take us to France, New Orleans, and Mexico. Sueno, which has a sister restaurant by the same name in Richardson, delivers something a little different than Il Molino and Banditos. If Il Molino is the intimate, adults-only resort, and Banditos is the lively, approachable single- and family-friendly resort, then Sueno is the boutique, seaside resort. It can handle families who are used to dining out and also has a great bar and atrium area that lends itself perfectly to drinks with friends.
The food and cocktails are sophisticated—it has a large agave menu if you are into that. The atmosphere is elevated, and Sueno has three distinct areas: the climate-controlled atrium; the bar and dining room, which are a little more dimly lit; and another dining area with windows on two sides, which leaves it lighter and feeling a bit more casual.
I've been twice. Once for dinner with my husband. We sampled multiple drinks as we sat in the atrium and did our share of people-watching. Our server, Luis, was fantastic, and he even recognized me on my next visit—at the bar with a friend for happy hour. Luis made excellent recommendations, and my two favorite drinks were the Mexican Martini and their version of the Ranch Water. Sueno's menu is very seafood-forward. We had the shrimp ceviche on one visit, and a friend recommended the scallop starter as well. They offer multiple fish entrées, like salmon and redfish, as well as the seafood relleno, which I opted to have in a tomato broth sauce versus the creamier option. Because the relleno was grilled and not fried, this ended up being a relatively light meal. I would definitely order it again. A friend recommended the mole, and my husband went for the enchiladas. He said it was one of his best mole experiences.
They also have fajitas and a variety of tacos and enchiladas but may not be the place for those who prefer Tex-Mex only.
I was concerned about a third Mexican establishment in Snider Plaza, but after experiencing all of them multiple times, I believe they each have their mission and that more high-quality restaurants in Snider Plaza will lead to a more vibrant area for all of us residents. "A rising tide lifts all boats." How lucky we are to have so many great spots that are central and walkable!
